Hi there
I've been playing Avliss for a few weeks now. Love it, and find the Players and Characters fun and helpful.
But been having huge difficulties with Rats!! I thought at first they were just hardy rats and I was but a meek Rogue with a short bow. Melee Combat with my Bow Point Blank feat just took agas, I kept missing and then realised I wasnt getting my Full bonus's for attack. I didnt get the +1 bonus for being within 15ft, but was penalised -4!! When I then took out my Rapier I made short work of them. So it looks like my Point Blank Feat isnt working.

Is this aknown bug or just me!!

I never have heard about a bug with point blank shot, though.

I too have noticed, that alltho in your char sheet it notes that you get your bonus when using a bow, it infact in the rolls gives you a -4 penalty. I figured it was due to lag or something... i wondered why my ranged kepth missing all the time.

Okay if I am correct here (if not 10 other people will correct me so that's the reason I dare to post),

you get the -4 because you are fighting close combat with a range weapon. aslong as you are not in close combat the bonus will apply but when fighting in close combat switch to a non-range weapon. The enemies also get attacks of opportunity, because your use of a range weapon in close combat.

It's useful at point blank range, not melee, yes.

So now is there a bug or not????

The reason I'm asking is that I use range weapons in melee combat pretty often (I've all kinds of cool feats for longbow)... I don't wanna have -4 on top of the attack of opportunity!

Never had a high-level-rogue, but AFAIK there are some special feats which allow you using range weapon in melee and increase its efficiency.

point blank shot should both remove the -4 penalty for using a ranged weapon in melee, and give +1 to hit & damage if within 15 feet



The question is, should it work like this in Avlis, or has it been 'customised'?

lag doesn't affect the die rolls. I think this is a long time bug. I seem to remember something about it on the bio boards a while ago.

Keep in mind the cumulative penalty for firing a bow in melee or at someone engaged in melee is -8.

Point Blank Shot negates 4 of it, but Precise Shot the other half of the "close range support archer" feat doesn't exist.

Where does this -8 come from?
Pretty sure I only get -4, and that is *without* point blank feat. As I understand NWN, there is only the -4, which is negated by point black shot (note the description of this feat says "negates the -4 penalty for using missile weapons in melee", which to me suggests that the penalty for using missile weapons in melee is -4, and no more)

I'm pretty sure that there is only -4 in melee (+AoO of course)!

The question is whether the PBS is working or not on Avlis?

Could somebody confirm this please!

This is a direct question that could be targeted at the team, as it relates specifically to Avlis (that's my take anyway).

If it's not working, people who paid 000's for bracers of archery wont be too happy.

I never realy looked at my rolls, but Im a rogue with pont blank from level 5 and I think it helps a lot when you need to get a sneak atack with ranged.

The answer is it works insofar as it gives you +1 to hit and damage at point blank range. (very useful)

Well i think it does too. I took on a spider one on one, no sneaks and there is no way i was getting penalised, actualy my atacks were getting + 2 on top instead of one.. or maybe i just read it wrong...

I can confirm that it works like it is supposed to for me.

Maybe there is something wrong with this Alexyzar's PC's build - e.g. some sort of corruption.

I'd suggest downloading one of those level-up mods and just trying this again. There was a neat CEP level-up mod posted somewhere on these boards and you could equip the character as well.

Uhh...i thought it was just for throwing weapons...not all ranged..

+1 to attacks and ac for being small size. Gnomes get the same. The thrown weapon bonus is in addition.

Now that is with my elven archer who has a 12/7 AB with this bow equiped

So it would appear that PBS does in fact work as reported in the feat details.

This was done just before on the wilderness

As an aside I gues that the AB of 8 for the first attack was because the Fire Beetle won the initiative roll so I made my first attack using my second attack of the round?

Exactly! Which means halflings could get +1 for being small, +1 for throwing a weapon and +1 if they had PBS and where within 15 feet (or whatever it is) - not bad that +3 bonus to hit

On the downside, throwing weapons are darts or throwing axes - both of which are quite heavy to lug around ... or those little star things if anyone uses those.

EDIT: The +1 to-hit for being small is for all attacks, not just ranged.

It's the 2nd number on each attack roll thats your AB, so you did indeed get 13 for your first attack and 8 for your 2nd

Slings also count as throwing weapons for halfings to get the bonus. Lots of nice bullets to use.

As an Arcane Archer I always use my bow in melee (well unless I am bothering rats or it is lagging and I accidently press the hot key twice ) - while it would be nice if PBS works as it is supposed to it will make very little difference to me as my character has trained all his life with a bow and switching weapons to get a better bonus on my attack role seems a bit cheesy

Although with the AA bonus I probably am better using the bow anyway
