Need some help.

Ok Im a pretty new player and I play a psion/monk.
When I was doing one of the quests for the temple of O'ma in Elisya, which was to look for incriminating evidence of a spy, I grabbed some things off of a shelf that I put back, but it changed my alignment to more chaotic from lawful

. My problem is now I cant upgrade my charecter to monk anymore. Can a DM change my alignment? I could just keep going as a psion, but I really want to keep RPing my monk/psion if that would still be possible.
Thanks for all your help, Alex

If I'm not mistaken, psions have to be lawful too.

First, welcome to Avlis!
This is a frequently discussed topic, something with which the search function would have helped. When in doubt, don't ever grab something from a container, you can ID it without picking it up, if you're really that interested.
You'll have to put forth some serious effort to regain a lawful alignment. A few quests exist, but you only find them out in game. You COULD message the DM channel, especially if you are involved in a DM plot and made every effort to be lawful, but never spam the DM channel or ask for a complete change.
Here's an old post discussing the topic:

It may take a lot of time and effort to switch back to law, so if your PC is new, you didn't know about the game's alignment mechanics, and you're not attached to this PC: you may want to start a new character and be cautious in the future.

Taking one thing only shifts you two towards chaotic...you must have done some other...chaotic...acts before eh?

Did it just give you chaotic points or also give you enough to change your alignment to neutral-something? If the latter, then it must not be the first time you've done something chaotic.

No I grabed some bolts and a goldpiece which swiched me. The sad part is that I still havent found any suspicios evidence in that house to arrest the stupid spy. Oh well I'll keep going with the psion then.

No I'm still lawful, but it told me I could not continue with monk levels anymore.

Are you sure it didn't say something more like: if you
continue doing things like this, then you will not be able to continue as a monk?

I'm pretty sure that it said I cant continue with my monk class. Iam pretty close to my next level so I'll have to check to make sure it wont let me level as monk.

Isn't it a little presumptuous to ask a DM to clean up the little mess you've gotten for being a little too "interested" in others possessions?

Not interested in their possetions because I put them back, just looking for quest items that were needed to prove a cleric guilty of being a spy.

you can always examine the items while they are on the shelf...there really is not reason to take them off the shelf. I hope that helps.
