NWN and RAID

I am thinking that I once read on the Bioware boards that NWN and RAID0 do not get along very well. Are there folks out there running a RAID array? I am building a new system and would like to get this squared away before I start making purchases. I suppose I could go back to the Bioware boards but why would I with the Avlis community here? Thanks in advance for any replies

The question you need to be asking is "am I sure I need RAID0". I hear lots of people saying they're going to incorporate RAID in some form into their new system, but the fact is, there's absolutely no need for RAID in most cases. Unless you're going to run a heavily database-driven server, or going to be editing a lot of Video or recording lots of Audio, I think you'll be fine with just a fast SATA Harddisk.

runs fine for me.

No problems here, or on my SO's system.

It's hard to see why an application would care what the disk layout was at that level, too.

Mind you, RAID0 isn't really RAID, it's just striping. It actually doubles the chances of a disk failure destroying your data (unlike RAID[15] which reduce the chances).

Have had no problems here either.

I am using a 4 disk RAID 0+1, and it's not giving me any problems. It's actually getting me through those transitions pretty fast :)

At any rate, as srn hintet, if a specific program were to have problems with such a hardware feature, then there is seriously something wrong. Having RAID must be completely invisible to programs at that level. In most ways, even the OS is not aware of its existence.
So if it was the case, then it would likely be more of a bug in the driver or the OS.
