Single Player keeps crashing

OK, just got a new copy of nwn to replace my broken HoTU cd.

had to reinstall the whole game again, on the count of it being platinum edition and all. put all the haks and stuff where they belonged for copap.

I can play online just fine, no crashing or anything like that. it's when i try to playt the original campaign that the game crashes.

I thought it might be one of the haks or 2da's or something but i doubt that.

my AR_ERROR.LOG shows the following lines:
Names Differ: TTR01_V12_01 txc71_v12_01

I am unable to dicpher this error message and have no clue how to rectify this problem.

Also, when i load my saved games, most of my char's things are completely gone. at first i thought this was an inventory bug of some sort, but when i re-loaded the save his things were still all missing except for sharwin's contract and some key.

im very puzzled, and have no clue what's going on with my client. can someone please help me out?

I've heard of not being able to log into singleplayer because of a corrupt character(s) in your server vault. Try cleaning out the vault and see if that helps. If it does, you can add in a few characters back in to try to find out which characters are corrupted.

I will try that and see what happens. I may have an idea of what character it may be. if so, i will cry

EDIT: Well, i moved all the characters out of my localvault and that did not work.

Everytime i go to open a chest or a bookcase is when it usually crashes on me. If that makes a difference, I don't know. :(

I thought it might have been me using my old cd key instead of my new one, but if that was the case, it would be crashing me while online too. :x

perhaps an important file i need got replaced somehow? I remember downloading a hak a few days ago that overwrote something, but it looked to be a custom file that got 86'ed. :?

i don't wanna have to re-install again, so any other ideas would be much appreciated thanks very much :)

Bah! it's every time i go to open a placeable.

I open the error log and it spouts somehting like:
Names Differ: txc_UDoor_04 txc_udoor_10

does this have to do with the tags on the placeables or an item script? I don't know much about the toolset and don't fiddle much with scripts. :?

I haven't editted the OC at all, and have only downloaded extra, custom content. I just cannot figure out this problem....

maybe it was when i imported my backed-up .ini files.
i try the ones it installed with and see. *grumbles*

Don't feel bad, I am romancing a second Walk through the Single player game and I can't play it anymore, either. I'm in the SOU when you get the slave collar.....it just chops up then freezes....So frustrating.......Everything was working fine until this point....can play online and go back to other saves....just can't get past this chop/Freeze crash in Single player....grrr.....Wonder if I fresh install onto another drive for Single player play.....as to not have all the CEP and Avlis mods dorking it all up for single player. I might try it *shrugs*

Have the same problem. One solution (and probably the easiest one) is to have a clean copy of the game somewhere for single player purposes. Some of the override and hak files aren't actually supported for single player. Sucks that I got through the original and half way through Shadows, then glitched.

This is actually a known 1.65 SoU issue. You'll need a hotfix to get around it.

How did your HoTU cd break? :?:

I'm just wondering because mine broke too!

I wasn't jumping on it or anything I just put in my cd drive every time I wanted to play... and it just broke!

Did you send it back to Atari to replace it? I'm pretty sure there is something wrong with HoTU cds.

Meth broke the CD in a fit of rage, quote:
[flaming rant]

argh, i fucking hate shit. things seem to get worse for me right when things start to get better.

today at noon i am to take my A+ OS Technologies test. Last night i wanted to take some practice tests for one last 'cram session'. My fiance was playing in rockhome, so i drank a few beers and watched adult swim while i waited patiently to get on the computer and study a bit more.

well, sometime between the second showing of futurama and family guy, i passed out. this means i was waiting for about 3 hours. well sometime LATER last night, she finally got her ass off the fucking game and tried to wake my drunnk ass up, i was like *grumbles and mumbles* went to the bathroom *more grumbling*

then i promptly passed back out. i did this in my sleep apparently as i do not remember.

i wake up at 7 in the morning and she still on rockhome, im thinking "great. she's been playing this all fucking night long and she knew i needed to use the computer to fucking study."

well, i flipped, as this is not the first time she has spent more time on the game than anything else, like clean, or fix food, or watch our son. so i geeked out a little bit more, and told her to get off the computer. I said,
"Tell everyone your with that you have to go now, you've been on since 8pm last night and your still fucking on! I have to study and now i don't have fucking time. you fucking bitch, what the hell is wrong with you?!?" or something like that.

I distinctly remember telling her to let her friends know that she had to go, but of coarse she got mad and just shut down. then the argueing ensued, and man was it ugly.

after attempting to reason with her (which never fucking works as she is a total selfish ass), i finally got to get on the computer, to check the directions to the test site, and attempt to take a practice exam.

I took out the HoTU cd and waved it around in the air and was like,
"You see this? This is a fucking game! How come this is more important to you than anything else? You gotta give it a fucking break!", I tell her this a lot as she just does not fucking learn.

I then held the disk in my hand and squeezed the ends, effortlessly smashing the disk into teenie tiny pieces that flew all over the place.

Then i was going on and on about responsibilities and I know she was thinking something like, "ok mom. whatever, your not my parent, i don't have to listen to you. i don't understand this responsibility shit so i don't fucking care...wait, did you just break your game? oh, shit, he's flaming fucking mad. *takes cover*"

yeah, i geeked out, smashed the cd. oh fucking well. now she has to spend more time with her family, and be a little more responsible and other shit like that. she never helps around the house anyways and just stresses me out more and more every fucking day, all because i had to get her addicted to nwn and pw's. what a fucking mistake that was. now i have to wait about 10 hours for a replacement cd to finish downloading.

*fumes*

yeah. it's a bitch sharing 1 computer and 1 copy of the game with anyone else but myself... :(

if you don't mind your house turning to shit, and ain't got any kids to worry about then you might be ok. oh, and get another computer too, or you'll be screaming until next tuesday and then some.

My NWN was also crashing all the time!

I've finally found out how to fix it. I'm not sure that it will help you, but it definitely helped me: I had to download a new driver for my sound card!

Before that I've reinstalled my whole computer couple of times, got the newest video card drivers, etc... but still NWN (and in the same time my comp as well) crashed every once in awhile.

However, after installing the new sound card driver no problems at all. Weird.

I've always thought that sound cards don't need any upgrading... but I turned out to be wrong.

I know about the souncard thing. that's not the problem im having.

it's one of the custom .2da's in my override folder that's causing the issue.

unless i can find which one it is and remove it, im dealing with a separate second installation of the game.

You can delete them all unless you play a Paladin in which case you need the classes.2da for the Detect Evil feat.

really? but doesn't avlis have .2da requirements?

if i were to '86 all my .2da's except for the ones that i needed. which ones would/should i keep?

if anyone knows please tell me

Avlis' 2da.s are in the hak, but you still need your client side 2da.s for the game to work.

It's very good that everyone has known about this soundcard issue except me... the crash was just SO annoying... :x

If I were you I would just do a full reinstall. Come one, what's the big deal? It doesn't take more than half an hour!!!

the problem with me doing a full install, is that i use a lot of the custom content in SP.

but i might just re-install anyways *groans*
