how many attacks should a crossbow get?

my char sheet says it should be 3, but it seems like its only 1.

Am i missing something really obvious?

You only get one shot with a crossbow, unless you also have the (?)rapid shot feat. I *think*.

One shot only, and one extra shot if you have rapid reload.

Regardless of what the book says you will get two shots max.

yes... the answer is still most pure mages. Only the first attack per round of a pure mage is likely to hit the broad side of a barn anyway. *steals it for haji's later career*

When you say uber how uber is that and whats the price, and hmmm I must be crazy but now I realise why bows which do less damage are much more common weapons.

Some single class clerics might also want to use crossbows as they way they dont have to take martial weapons prof, but most are either duel classes or take the profession so they can cut wood. I know thats the only reason I did.

In 3.5 PnP rules, Rapid Reload only gives 1 extra attack per round with a Heavy Crossbow, but allows as many as could be made with a bow with a light or hand crossbow. I wonder if it's been implemented like that in NWN.. has anyone tried using a light crossbow with Rapid Reload to see the attacks per round yet?

Ill tel you in two levels, next feat wil be rapid reload

I've tried it with light crossbow... and tried including rapid shot feat as well. Max with any crossbow is two shots per round with rapid reload, one without.

It's too bad because I think it would look really cool to be shooting a bunch of bolts out. Plus, to me, crossbows just look better with some of the races.

Makes me wish there was a CEP version of the repeating crossbow. This made Deekin one of the worst builds in the history of NWN. Dragon disciple, strength that you can get up to 40, 300+ hp, and an AC of stupid, and he uses the crossbow (weapon focus, imp. crit, rapid reload, and all the archery stuff for a crappy weapon that gets 2 shots a round).

In NWN Rapid Reload just lets you attack twice per round with any crossbow. In D&D 3.0 the Rapid Reload feat lets you recharge light crossbows as a free action or heavy crossbows as a move equivalent action, this increasing the RoF of light crossbows from 1 to 2 attacks and heavy crossbows go from 1/2 to 1 attack. Heavy crossbows can usually be fired just once every two rounds, they are insanely fast in NWN.

EDIT: Also in D&D 3.0 there's an epic feat called Instant Reload that lets you fire a crossbow at your full normal attack rate.

That's how it should work, but it doesn't.

In D&D 3.0:

Light crossbows: 1 attack per round
Heavy crossbows: 1 attack every two rounds

With Rapid Reload:

Light crossbows: 2 attacks per round
Heavy crossbows: 1 attack per round

With Instant Reload:

All crossbows use your full attack rate.


In NWN:

All crossbows attack once per round.

With Rapid Reload all crossbows attack twice per round.

Hmm I get three shots per round with my character and rapid reload. She uses a third order heavy crossbow, no extra enchancements on the crossbow too.

When and where?

FYI on the characer screen info it shows three attacks when she is equippeted with the heavy crossbow and 4 attacks when dual wielding shortsword and handaxe.

No not hasted either. Hasted she gets one more attack.

hm,strange i have the rapid reload feat and it seems i only get one attack per round still. dont no what the deal is with that, oh well
i swithced to using a bow.

Ok After extensive testing on the counter clerk in the 4A in Two Step Hall..........no I tested on the deadly archery target.

My character record screen says that with heavy crossbow I get +26/+21/+16, but when I fire upon the archery target I only see the +26 and the +21 attacks being dealt out to the archery target.

So it would seem that one only gets two shots with a crossbow and rapid reload.
