40th Level Characters

Avlis has been around for awhile now.

Who will be in the 1st 40th level character? (assuming there isnt one already that I am not aware of)

And what will they do when they reach that pinnacle?

Are there plans to open up levels 41-60 or demi-god status?..lol

The smart money is on Green Raven.

Go to Disneyland.

You mean 40 levels aren't enough?

There are no plans in the works that I know of to increase the level cap past 40... thank god. However, it has happened in the past where a PC has been able to attain the status of godhood - one of the coolest things I've ever witnessed during my time here on Avlis. 8)

Good bet on Green, I wouldnt count Ed out though.

LOL@disneyland comment...Green Ravens house of horrors?

40 is plenty but I figure with the natural progression of things 40+ would be very cool. Maybe they can play on a differnt world :)

There was talk on some forum a while back about making an option for 40th level characters to have the option of recreating the character with a special race (for example, a 40th level wizard could choose to become a lich). I'm quite sure this option isn't available (unless it's a super secret), and don't even know if it's being worked on. What would Green Raven become?

One server i played on allowed a PC to be reserrected when they reached level 40 if they had been a good RP. The reserrected PC could choose to have improved attribules or choose a special class.

Leveling was a lot easier on that server than on avlis. For a level 40 character to want to be reserrected and start from level one again. The rewards on avlis would have to be very tempting.

If I got to keep my rank and status, hell yes I'd do it, screw levels.

It would be interesting if you could contribute XP above and beyond 40th level to a cause, which the DMs recognize in various ways (perhaps a level 40 cleric, for instance, made his deity more powerful).

Or you could continue the level scale on up as it stands - give an extra feat at 50th and 60th and nothing else. *grin*

I have to ask again, why?

Personally, I think all the "epic" areas should be removed. Epics are sad that they can't level? Cry me a river, you should just be happy that you got there.

Now suddenly everybody wants something past 40th? Good god, give me a fekking break. You've already reached a level of power that is supposed to be legendary and awesome, and you're acting like it's just another waypoint to getting more feats and spells.

I'm actually rather dissapointed by some of the implications of statements made in this thread. Passing 20th has been reduced to a path to Epic feats, I guess.

Given how tough it is for non-powergamers to make it much past 30th, I don't see this as a problem at all. My current rate of progress on my epic pc is 1 level per 2-3 months. I doubt I'll ever see 40th and I don't care. I've seen quite a few epics being retired recently, so I doubt there are even that many 30+ characters very active anyhow. For those that got there in under a year...you must be online all the time, or powergamers, or both, and in that case, I could care less if you're bored.

My bets in Avlis all go to Green Raven, IMHO. Hope she keeps the character after that :)

or maybe... she'll retire and send all her gear to Aramil :D

heh Best bet is on Green Raven to hit lvl 40 first. And I would guess that Green Raven will still be around for a while to come.

Not really constructive. Removing epic areas won't slow down epics wanting to level quickly in advancing one bit, because when a CR 4 monster gives as much xp as a CR 20 monster (2-5 xp), the powergamers will opt for the CR 4 monsters anytime. Much quicker xp.

What you would be removing however is the areas that make adventuring interesting for epics. Areas where they find a nice challenge to pit their skills against, places where non-epics only hear about and aspire to be one day able to traverse them themselves. Areas like the LRC that have a ring of 'terror' to them.

Not advocating being able to quickly reach lvl 40/50/60 at all, but i think your statement is just over the top to the other side. For that line of reasoning, we could simply make every monster yield 1 xp and be done with it.

This is a discussion area and I would like to know what plans longtime players have in mind with their characters that they have played for 2 -3 years.

If you dont care that is your perrogative I suppose but why waste your time with negative answers. You sound bitter

With all the questions posed on this forum for you to be so negative I can only believe that you must be resentful for or envious to the other players referneced here.

I mean if you really dont care why post?

I think what was meant was that the most important thing was roleplaying, and not level. Just my guess though

If so, he worded it very poorly. As it is tt sounds very derogatory, bordering on poisonous, towards anyone who dares even contemplate liking to be epic and who is wondering, just wondering, what might come after, if anything.

There's a huge difference between "RP is the most important thing to enjoy on avlis" and "I think all the "epic" areas should be removed", mainly in allowing each their own interest within the Avlis concept of what a world could/should offer.

*points to the truthfull lines in Khaelindra's sig about rp and powergaming*

I think getting to epic levels isn't deminishing rp in any way with good players. And above all, even the godly collection of servers known as Avlis is just a game :o If people enjoy themselves with overthinking the possibilities of life after level 40, let them! It's fun to be able to fantasise about that. IMHO by the way, epic levels are cool :D And epic feats are not just epic feats, some of them really do give you an epic feel, and there's nothing wrong with that.
And one more thing to nightface: Stop *nver*xing around 8)

I totally agree with Khaelindra...her 2 posts :)

this comment from Nightface...well...not really constructive in how it was written.

If you want to put an opinion on those boards, go ahead but don't throw down others'. Bring some good argument to win your point instead of this poor post.

I think that to have Epic characters around is great and as Nightface said, they should be legendary characters. If no one knows about an Epic char, there is a real problem with the way he played it since everyone should know about him or her...at least in his area (country or speciality).

Above 20th chars are supposed to be referred to, ask for guidance in a field or experiences they might have....leaders of guilds or groups, etc. that is what I think...and I must say that sometimes, when I take a peek at the players' list at logon, well....I can see more than one epic char that I have never heard of.

anyways...that was my comment...and this is all about it here so... :)
