Minions attacking you

Every once in a while, my familiar (or NPC in SP campaign) will suddenly turn on me in the middle of a battle. This especially sucks when your familiar has a sneak attack, because then you're hurting.

What is up with this? Is it a NWN bug in general? Or am I doing something to piss them off?

My wizard got killed a couple of times by his panther way back. Normally because Id cast an area spell like fireball and my panther would run into the blast area before it went off. A particular problem in heavy lag. Even though the panther often dodged the blast entirely it would get upset and turn on me. Sneak attack made that pretty lethal to a low to mid level wizard.

You can often stop the attack by issuing fresh orders to the panther on the radial menu. Safer just to unsummon though.

I have never had this happen, and my wizard will often throw damaging AoE spells with no regard for any summon who might get hurt by them.

My succubus uses me as the earthing element in her lightning spells...

My Subbucus has done that to my character too. A bigger problem has been if I'm fighting around some friendly npcs, like M'Chek army members, my succubus will use an AoE spell like grasping tentacles then suddenly the army guys will go after her.

Considering that my ranger is incapable of performing anything resembling an AoE spell, I'm still at a loss. It was as if the panther was trying to go through me to get to the enemies. It was diseased at the time, so I just blamed it on that.

I'm sure they're all very lonely indeed

Do you use Rod of Frost or something like this? Misclicks happen in the heat of battle... :)

I've done that many a time without my familiar turning on me...

I've done everything that could possibly let summons, familiars or henchmen turn on me, and it never happened, in both Avlis, other PWs and Single Player.
(This includes: Epic Spells, Grenade-Like weapons, spells, area of effect, summoning stuff INSIDE traps, etc, etc)

I know that using Gate without first being protected against Evil (unless of course you are Evil to start with) will cause the Balor to attack the one who summoned it.

Other than that, my Familiar or Summons have never attacked my Characters.

Maybe they just don't like you

I think the AI is different for the various summons and familiars. Panthers are touchy bastards. Ive hit a summoned dire wolf with area stuff loads of times and it doesnt care. Probably most familars and summons dont, but some do.

I've only been attacked when a familiar/summons was affected by a confusion or similar effect. What are you fighting when this happens? Or are you using any spells that cause confusion and might be affecting your summons? I think shimmering cloud might do so, for example.

The few times it happened recently I was in Elysia inner secret sewers. I would use my bow or swords to fight the beetles, and suddenly my panther would attack me instead of attacking the beetles. I'm not sure whether or not the panther being diseased had anything to do with it (but I RP'ed it that way), but the problem persisted even after healing him.

Maybe those funky green/puke clouds the beetles give off were doing it? If you can stay alive long enough, try the "examine" function on your familiar, and see if it is confused or anything.

Panther familiars at least seems to go nuts sometimes. Seems like they hostile if they walk in the web, casted by partymembers... Just yesterday there was one attacking my spider companion and we were in same party.... So I gave it a finger...

My panther is also very touchy and will attack whoever cast an AOE effect that hits it (including darkness spells!)

he will attack friendly summons (succubuses always seem to atract abuse), other party members and myself quite happily in these cases.

guess that is the price we pay for having a familiar with a nasty sneak attack

when i played the OC and used other familiars, that never happened so i support the hypotheses that it may be panther specific

Makes me shudder to think what will happen when we get the Epic minion at Bg 13 ( I think thats when we can get it).

That minion, as I understand it, is even more powerful than the summoner!

that has a lot more to do with the summoners being soo wimpy, not the summon being strong.

har har

*an old gnome watches the mages trying to control their summons*

- They recognize your voice! Even when they enter rage they recognize your voice.

((Try typing v-e-e when your summon goes crazy! Sometimes v-w-x works too.))
