One of you guys must know this.
Does the Use Magic Device skill allow you to use items that are alignment specific for an alignment that you are not?

No... Alignment Specific Items aren't effected by UMD skill, If an item is Alignment Restricted, your character has to be that alignment in order to use it.

Liartes has the right of it, UMD allows you to use alignment-restricted items. It's the toughest restriction to overcome so you need a high UMD to do it, though.

I can confirm that. I've used numerous alignment-restricted items in the single player campaigns, and Rhissaerk has worn alignment-restricted items on Avlis with a decent UMD skill.

ok guys. thanks. How high would my UMD skill need to be for me to be able to use an EVIL blade for my LAWFUL GOOD character?
(Blade is 'one hit-one kill' rapier, char will soon be lvl 8 pure rogue)

*from the nwn gold book (if avlis changed this its beyond my knowledge, but this has seemed ot be accurate for me*
The first column is UMD ranks, the rest are the max GP the item can be to use for that rank
RANKS, class restriction, race res, align res
1, 1000, imp, imp
5, 4800, 1000, imp
10, 20K. 4800, 1000
15,100K,20K,4800
20,100K,100K,20K
25,100K,100K,100K
fairly straight forward but if you need help just ask me
I'm not sure what the cost of that blade is but i *think* i was using it with 5 ranks... *shrugs* but then again i met the alingment at the time so never mind hehe. On the bright side being a rogue you should have no problem getting the 5-10 ranks

From Neverwinter Grimoire:
Base DC of this task is determined by the value of the item, and modified by the type of emulation the character is attempting. If the character attempts to emulate a specific race, the DC increases by 5; if he attempts to emulate a specific alignment, the DC increases by 10. Emulating a specific class does not modify the base DC.
Note: Value of item you can use only go up, when you put additional 5 points in UMD. (1, for 1000gp class restricted item. 5, for 4800gp class restricted item.....)

ok. Aynone know what the rapier -one hit, one kill- is rated as being worth in the palate, and can tell me the exact number of UMD ranks i would need to be able to use it as an LG character, as i am being offered this blade, and need to know if its a waste of time.
I have no points in UMD at the moment, so can put 11 in this time if necessary

rapier. I believe is +1. Dev Criticals(+2D6) as far as i know. Item is named 'one hit,one kill'. is restricted to evil characters only. have so far seen 3. two in Featherfingers trading, and the one I'm being offered

I worked it out in tool set and it came to 4766gp. So I would say 15? But this doesn't account for item lvl limitation, which won't help no matter how much UMD you have.
Rapier enhancement bonus +1, massive critical (2d6), and Evil only.

if i had to guess i would say 15. because i want to say it sells for a couple grand at the npc i know of, and since its an align restriction for you that would requires 15 points if it was 4800 or less. might be easier to donate to the temple of valok hehe.

I would seriously consider what you are doing... you are going to do a 180 with alignment in order to use a quasi neat rapier which is only that great if you are dual wielding with ambidex, two weapon, weapon focus, and improved crit.... also how would that pan out IC? we arent talking about smeegles and the ring here *Shrugs* just my two cents... i have a level 8 rogue who loves the blades *grins* he has two of them, but they also fit him very well. there are plenty of different rapiers out there, many with ABs which this rapier doesnt even have. *shrugs* also its worthless agsinst undead
One hit one kill does NOT have a +1 AB

does that do +1 electric or +2? i've seen some very inexpensive rapiers which do two elemental damage and have a +1AB. quite common. *thinks* i have 6 *grins* some pc merchs have uber rapiers, but be prepared to drop 40-150K easily

+1 AB +2 electrical. wanted something a little tougher
