How do get a working knowledge of the DM client?

Minor DM:
Requirements:
Know a little bit about the history of Avlis. have a working knowledge of 3rd Edition D&D, Neverwinter Nights, and the NWN DM Client. Lots of roleplaying ability is also a plus.
As I've been looking at the requirements for becoming a DM (would be fun to be one in the future) I found this part of the requirements.
As I think I qualify for the rest of the requirements (don't know how much "a little bit" of history is though), this looks like the only part which I can't say I'm good at. Meaning: I've never used the DM client, I've only done PnP DM-ing.
This also looks like the only thing I won't be able to learn on Avlis (kind of a chicken and egg problem) so I was wondering if any of you guys know of a way to learn about the DM client?
Any help would be appreciated.

Kroax,
Go to nwvault.ign.com and download some DM-friendly modules from there. Then, host it on your own machine and have some friends log in as players, whilst you log in as a DM. Then play around with doing things like jumping people around, giving and removing XP and gold, spawning monsters, creating items, and so on.
There are guides out there as well, and things like the DMFI (DM Friendly Initiative) to make life easier. Search around the web for some resources.
Cheers,
kombinat

Eg I did ym first steps by simply opening a module in DM mod, and looking around, trying all the shiny buttons (Kikki mode on...) and moving around with the DM avatar.
Having a more experienced DM along to show you the ropes helps immensively, though.

Another good experience is joining NeverWinterConnections.com. They have a great sheduling system with calendar set up, the community there is great, much better matchmaking service than crappy ol' Gamespy.
They even chedule classes called DM 101.
They are always clamoring for more people to get into DM'ing over there. You wouldn't have any trouble finding willing victim- err, players to learn to DM with anyways.
But it is a great way to get your feet wet in terms of DM experience.
I love that site, occasionally they even sponsor online events like the NeverWinter Con..

Also I want to remind to everyone that there are many CoPaP worlds that actively looking for DMs and staff, which would be a good experience. Check CoPaP site.

Good idea, there's just this one flaw: none of my friends own NWN. But I have been telling them about Avlis and several of them seems to be interested.

Sounds fun, I'll do that.
Unfortunately, I don't know any experienced DM (personally). (See above post.)

Yes, I remember reading something about that on their site, but I can't seem to find it now.

Heh, looks cool. But since I live in Sweden I don't think I'll spend my money on the freight cost for shipping it from the US.
And who says that there's no market for game-specific computer accessories?

I'm pretty sure if you ask around on Avlis, there are plenty of people who would be willing to help you practice. *cough*me*cough*
