Assassin as class

Okay. Let me start by saying that I have never made assassin before, but I'm considering one. My question is:
How does assassins death attack work? I mean, I suppose it works as sneak attack mostly, but there is chance to for paralyzing? how is that calculated etc. Any info about assassins other abilities are welcome as well. Thanks
