Chrisma and Sorcerers

Hey guys, i have a questiuon regarding how chrisma effects a sorcerer.

I have a paladin/sorcerer and i understand what effects chrisma plays on his paladin abilities BUT i'm not sure what chrisma does for the sorcerer side of things.

It doesnt seem like using chrisma enhancing items (mask of pursuasion/nymph cloak) give me more knwon spells per level (5 max) OR more castable spells per level (max 8). Does having increased chrisma make his magical spells hit harder or harder to save against? What does having high CHA do for a sorcerer??

thanks

They do add more cast per day spells (not known spells), but you have to wear the gear and then rest...you can't just put it on and instantaneously have more spells. If your CHA is high enough, you can get more than 8...I've gotten 9 spells for the lower levels (ten if I use items that just add spell slots). Cha also improves the DC check for your spells...DC= 10 +spell level + charisma modifier.

So bottom line is that it does help you out :D

Charisma increases DC (10 + spell level +charisma bonus) and provided it is high enough it will allow for bonus spells per day.

Bonus spell slots increase on even numbered cha values, and they are the modified score, so wearing gear does boost them. You never get any bonus spell slots for cantrips (lvl0)

The exact progression of bonus spell slots is

Code: Select all

          Spell level
cha 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9
--------------------------------------------
12-13 1
14-15 1 1
16-17 1 1 1
18-19 1 1 1 1
20-21 2 1 1 1 1
22-23 2 2 1 1 1 1
24-25 2 2 2 1 1 1 1
26-27 2 2 2 2 1 1 1 1
28-29 3 2 2 2 2 1 1 1 1
30-31 3 3 2 2 2 2 1 1 1
32-33 3 3 3 2 2 2 2 1 1
34-35 3 3 3 3 2 2 2 2 1
36-37 4 3 3 3 3 2 2 2 2
38-39 4 4 3 3 3 3 2 2 2
40-41 4 4 4 3 3 3 3 2 2

That fact makes makes ioun stones something of a disappointment. :(

ioun stones float above your head... thus you cant sleep with them working.

That's why it's dissapointing.

Ioun stones would be great, they'd enable me to wear something other than INT-enhancing gear at times, except when resting..

Another question about sorcerers;

I was under the assumption that they get 5 known spells per level.

5 level 5, 5 level 2, 5 level 3 etc.. Someone told me they were pretty sure sorcerers get fewer known spells as the spell level goes up

ex
5 level 1 and 2 spells
4 lever 3, 4 and 5 spells
3 level 6, 7, 8, and, 9 spells

Please tell me a sorcerer can learn more than 3 level 6 spells....

This is correct, a sorcerer can only have so much spells per level. Shame but true.

i preffered the Baldur's Gate rules for Ioun Stones, equippable in the helmet slot
Much better, course, i want all the penalties back from the BG series (fatigue, not being able to move if carrying too much weight, haste making you fatigued, improved haste NOT making you fatigued) and all the kickass spells they took out

Doesn't that suck? I'd even give up a 7th level slot to get another 6th.

And does int work in the same way for wizards as charisma for sorcerers?

here is a question I would like to know is there an increase to the number of known spells for epic level sorcs... if not can we add that to the growing wish list.

Use the Silent or Still Spell metamagic feats, that'll use the next highest level slot (6th->7th), unless of course, you're already using metamagic...

If you mean what I think you mean, then oddly that doesn't work. Very annoying.

Sure, rest with your ability boost gear on, cast eagles splendor or fox's cunning for a wizard, pop the ioun stone, and then switch out your boost gear for other things. You'll retain your bonus spells until next rest. Switch out your gear again before next rest, rinse repeat :P

See the above post. It should work, but doesn't :(

Huh? Works for me.

You're saying if you rest with your persuasion mask on, buff your CHA through spells or an ioun stone, then take off the mask, you'll lose slots? Double check... I'm not saying you're wrong but it's always worked for me.

Numerous times I have noticed this failing to work.

As a sorceror or as a wizard?

Is Vanya a wiz or sorc? Could be it works differently for wiz and sorc for some stupid reason.

EDIT: Damn it komb, you're not helping the whole Dralix/Sand thing you know ...
