The spell description says it is 1 hour/caster level, but I had cause to use it for the first time today and it only lasts for a few rounds.. Is it a glitch, or is the description wrong?

No glitch, I think the design of the spell is to be stationary, if you move, it dispels.

the spell is cast with the casters' Physical Location at the Time Of Casting as the source of the circle. if the caster moves out of the circle, the spell ends.
it's a stupid bioware mistake. they should have figured a way for the spell to be cast centered on the caster himself so that the circle would move with you.

My understanding is that the circle does move with the caster, but at a delay. At least that's what Jake Bentsen has me believe about Invisibility sphere, which I assume works the same way.

FYI, I'm working on a way to fix this. Jordi sent me a link to some code that is supposed to solve the problem. It's not top of my list, but it's one of the things I have in progress.

yep - that's great. Could be a useful spell, but currently it has no use whatsoever.
well .. unless all the evil kindly comes to me and gets in a nice line

Queues to the left or right? (I know you lawful types worry about things like that)

It does have uses, admittedly very limited ones. Think bottlenecks.

I've noticed that this works on one of the the CoPap worlds (either Travellers or Hala - can't remember which), so it is possible.
Would be a useful spell if it actually travelled with you.

Actually, you reminded me that this might be the perfect first project for a new sub.

So maybe you'll see it sooner than I had planned...

does magic circle against alignment protect you from balors spawned by the gate spell

It's not an inpenetrable shield that things of the selected alignment cannot penetrate. It just gives you (and any within 10' of you) some bonuses when facing things of this nature.
So ... as long as you use the protection against evil variety .. you would get the bonuses (once it's working that is)

Yes, it does. If you cast Gate when you are protected by a magic circle against evil, the balor won't be hostile and will behave as a regular summoned creature.
If you haven't summoned the balor yourself, then what Aradan has said applies.
