Just a quick intro

Greetings all, seems the winds of fate have blown me to your part of the world. So far I have been intrigued. In all my travels, I have yet to find a spot where I can find my niche in the world. A good tale of adventure and good company of like mind is what I search for. So far my search of your lands, seem to match what it is I seek. I posted my skills at the local tavern, and I just waited for those of need of my blades or skills to come calling. If the enforcers of the code and law do not mind me hanging around, then I think I shall. I hope to share a tale and ale with thee all. Till our next meeting then, shall the Winds of Fate be kind to thee.
Elkyr Talynbalde

OOC- Hello all, I am sitting here at work, bored as hell, went on the Vault sight and found myself gazing at a post that mentioned your PW. Dropped by and loved what I saw. In all my gaming I have been looking for a hard core RPing group. In EQOA and even EQ, the Rping was minimal. Loved my guild and friends in there, but the overall servers where gaming and not Rping. I am looking for pure RP, in character 90, if not 100 percent of the time. I obviously have a lot of reading to due, to familiarize myself with your world and the basics, but from what I got so far, it sounds like just the thing I am looking for. I wanna have a good idea of your history so if I get accepted I can have a backround that fits into your scheme, so I know how to play out my character. I usually play a elf rogue/ranger. Just wanderer, following the Winds of Fate, trying to leave hope and serve justice in his wake. I like the battle scout role. If there is a abundane of those, I will gladly implement Jundar Thuderaxe, dwarven fighter/paladin(or whatever new class he fits in under your scheme), to add to your world. I can role play both fairly well, in my opinion. As to my PC, it is kinda outdated, but it handles both expansions, I am on a 56k dial up. I know some servers frown upon that. If that is so, no hard feelings, I understand. Well my babling is over. I hope to hear from your administrators soon, so I can start the downloading process. Thanks for your time.

Welcome to Avlis. Glad to see you here.

You will find Avlis to have a very good roleplay environment. However, do not be surprised if you see the occasional OOC comment about being away from keyboard or what have you. There's a lot of new players coming in recently who are still learning the RP ropes a bit.

Anyway, Avlis is a big world to explore. Not every tile has something in it like a spawn or tavern. Some are just open terrain adding to the expansive feel of the world. To go from north to south takes a long time (and is extremely dangerous at lower levels). By god, the Team wants you to feel it!

Hope you enjoy your time here.

Be prepared for some lag at times, if you have dialup, but we encourage all to play and give it a shot.

Welcome.

Welcome, I look forward to seeing you ingame at some point.

I was playing on dialup for about my first 4-5 months here. In large groups and/or where there are large amounts of magical effects in the same area as you there may be a little bandwidth induced lag, however NWN is more than playable on a 56k modem.

Well hello!

As a former EQ player, I know exactly how you feel! I *used* to be a raid leader for a somewhat large guild, about 90 people strong, and after a while.. it became more of a job then a gaming experience, with absolutely no roleplaying whatsoever. To give some of you an example of what I mean.. the 'typical' roleplaying goes as follows:

/shout Cleric chain 1, target tank A. Monks 2 - 7 pull left pillar. SK's and Pally's tank off the non-mezzies. Chanters pull of the rest.

[cleric one casts complete heal]

/shout assist now!

[cleric two casts complete heal]

/shout TPK, r.i.p. Monks stayed feigned we'll be back in about six hours.

For the next six hours, get your corpses and go get the lost xp back... shouldn't take only but three weeks eight hours a day. :)

So.. I can totally understand where you're coming from. Avlis here is the most wonderful thing I've discovered in a long long time. I've been playing, maybe a month.. or two. But, its been the most fun I've had since I started playing online games. Its free, the dm's are active!!!! and there's an atmosphere you just can't beat anywhere.

Welcome to Avlis. I hope you find exactly what you looking for. ^.^ Send me a message anytime.

Welcome aboard :D

Do not worry about your dial-up connection. In a few days you will get so addicted you will do everything to get at least an ADSL, be it stealing money from your brother (just joking, don't try this even if you do have a brother :) )

Heya, welcome to Avlis. I think you'll find that either one of those characters will work out well in Avlis. My personal, very biased, opinion is that it might be easier to start with an elf rogue/ranger. The Le'Or T'Nanshi server (capital of the Elves) where you will most likely start has been recently revamped, and now has about 10 areas that are very newbie friendly (rats, spiders, snakes, etc., etc.,). It is also a bit less crowded than the Elsyia and Mikona servers which were the traditional starting areas for most characters.

I think it would be a fair bit more difficult to start in Deglos (home of gnomes and dwarves). The place is amazingly huge, and it seems far easier to stumble onto something that plaster you, and less likely that you will run into other characters for RP. Don't get me wrong... I love Deglos, but I find it better to solo, or go with a group of higher level players.

Hope that helps, and welcome again,

Bear

OOC- many thanks for the warm welcome and tips on getting started. I think I will stick with Elkyr, the rogue/ranger. My app was submitted, now I just waiting on response, it said 24-48 hours. I am looking forward to joining the community. I plan on updating the game tommorrow, and then by then I should know if I was accepted, so I can download the HAK PAKS. Keeping my fingers crossed. So till then, may the winds of fate be kind.

welcome to avlis. the 56k adds up on lag once in a while, but no one really complains THAT much lol. ( speaking as a noob who has cable modem)
