UTC = GMT (Greenwich MeanTime, where time was invented )

Please be aware that although Greenwich is in the UK, GMT is NOT UK time. In the UK we have Daylight Saving time in the summer months, which means that we are currently GMT+1. GMT stays constant.

Also, many folk have taken to adding the GMT timezone info to our "location" in the profile *points to left hand column*. This can be useful for people wanting to meet up, etc.

I bookmarked that page, its the easiest and the most awesome, not confusing like some other sites I have checked. Now I can finally make that class.

I think that everyone when posting a time either in game or on the boards should be required to use one specific time zone whichever that is. That way everyone will eventually just get used to adding or subtracting acording to their own time zone automatically when they see a time. I think we should all vote on which time zone to use. I don't care which it is I just think it would be nice if everyone used the same one.

Some of these change depending on the seasonl. April 3, 2005 is when time changes for us, and we increase an hour. So, Florida will become GMT-4...

Hurts head some times trying to find out what time of day it is when you need to speak to someone that lives in NZ...

I just tried it out the 4A converter, but I like this one better. I'll tell you why later in the post:

Here's how to use it.

1) Click above link.

I will do an example: right now, at my location.

2) Select the BASE TIME ZONE for the event You do this by clicking the link that corresponds to your area. The list is by geographic location, so it's very easy and you don't have to know your UTC offset.

I click United States - Kansas on the list.

3) Enter the date and time for the event, appropriate to the base time zone. You don't have to show "right now," you can choose the event time.

I enter right now, 09 (AM) - 15 - 2005 - May - 13, and click "submit"

4) You are now taken to a page showing a map with the base location marked, and the time selected there. Below that is a box showing a rondom second location and the time there. You can select the location you want to view from a drop down box.

I want to convert to GMT, so I choose GMT/UTC from the list. It is currently 2:15 PM.

5) Look just below that. It says "Build a Link." Putting that link in a message will allow your recipient to calc their time for your event via that same drop-down box.

WHY is this better than the 4A one? It does the same kind of stuff! I say this is more intuitive. You pick your timezone by locality, rather than by UTC offset. And it takes daylight savings time into account. I think most people do okay with timezone conversion conceptually, but have a hard time figuring out which UTC offset to use, and have an ESPECIALLY hard time when you need to deal with dyalight savings time. Picking by location, and having the date provided for you, takes all the confusion out of that. Plus, this tool shows you a map so it's really easy to notice if you've made a mistake.

AND you never have to convert to GMT - just do it for your local time, grab that link and paste it into your message, and your recipients can just click it and select their location so they can find out themselves! It's SOOO easy!

Or assume that NZ is part of Australia.

On another note, Brisbane is _always_ GMT+10

Nope, that is PDT, Pacific Daylight savings Time. So get to work. You're an hour late!!!!

There is also the time converter where you can use two pull down menus to select what time zone you are in and then select which timezone you want to compare to. It will tell you the time difference. It tells you based on a date you put in if that time zone is on day light savings time or not. Very nice site.
