Ok, strange question... PW suitable for a 10 year old.

My son has absolutly fallen in love with NWN... He plays it almost more then I do... As sad as that idea might be.
But he's 10, so Avlis is not suitable for him, or him Avlis. He doesn't understand RP yet, and would not do well here... Even if it was an option which it isn't.
So does anyone know of a decent, well run Hack and Slash type world out there, that would be suitable for someone that age? Perferably some place where PvP is off, and DM's keep people in line more or less.

Drue Noctem.
It's a world run out of the Amazon Basin Guild, where they are all-party players and have a strict PG-language and fair play behaviour guidelines.
You can find information on The Amazon Basin (NWN guild) here:
http://www.theamazonbasin.com/nwn/ and from there you will find links to several persistant worlds (yes, Avlis too) including Drue Noctem.
See their list here for the link:

Hope this helps.

I found a server that I found really friendly called Urath, It's not childish or anything, but I found it pretty easy-going yet fun

there's a pretty decent action server name aventia. It was my first PW and it's pretty action oriented though I'm not sure about the pvp aspect of it. It's a good server to start on before exploring other PW as you try out characters, builds, etc. You can find it under PW Action I think and it's an open server

There a website for it, and where could I find it, like PW action or what?
@Cougar, what's the addy for the one you mentioned? It looks rather promising as well.

Richterm's Retreat-- Nordock.

The more popular servers have plenty of teens, and a few people bring their younger siblings along. A precocious 10 year old might like it. No profanity or PvP. Some limited CvC, usually with DM oversight.
The scripting is a bit old (not sure they allow Epics yet), but still one of the best-designed base modules in my book.

I got into Aventia too and it was fun. Very hack-slash, no RP, but people party up and go on adventures, it's fun

How's it for PvP? Website?
@Ender... Oh god no. He's my son, so even at 10 years old, he has better taste then that.

They use the HCR set... Which I personally dispise for many reasons. So I think i'll have to pass on that. If I hate it for the reasons I do... I know my son won't like it.
Drue Noctem looks quite good, I'll have to check that out and get a real feel for it.
Brokenlands looks good, but has a fairly massive hak to DL...
I'd like to know more about Aventia... It sounds good. So does Urath.
Thanks for all the help so far guys, I really apprecate it.

I think Urath online was the first PW I played...it was ok.. in fact thats about all i remember of it, sort of unremarkable in that way.

Well, it was 12 months ago so the environment may have changed somewhat. But I keep an eye on the populations, it seems to have about as many people on as it did a year ago. But back then, things were not bad as far as PVP went. In about 3 months, I had about 3 incidents of negative PVP, and only one of those was of a couple of PKers, and a lot more cases where someone helped me out as I lay dead on the ground, giving me a raise. There's no looting or stealing possible, and death isn't much of an imposition.. small xp and gp penalty and you get teleported back to town.
I'd recommend logging in, try it out for an hour or two, then see whether you think it's appropriate.
Takes about a week or two of gameplay to get a char to level 20, I think. It gives you a chance to try out different builds, and is fun for that. One thing is that all the monsters had True Seeing... all of them... so no sneaking around past them. Still, plenty of locks and traps that require rogues.
Here's the world:

I despise HCR myself-- but I should say, I despise certain PW's blind application of HCR features across the board without much consideration for gameplay. HCR wasn't meant to be used that way.
Nordock only uses a limited subset of HCR features. Last time I checked on the most 'hardcore' of their servers, familiars and summons didn't cut into your XP. The most notable HCR feature in use is you'll need a bedroll and food to rest, both of which you can buy easily and cheaply and never have to bother about skinning a rabbit. You can, if you want to.
Some of their HCR features are just plain fun. Having a Book of Summons that lets you pick between 4 or 5 possible summons for each level of the monster summoning spell is plain kickass.

Well even though they have a DSL it's not a static IP. The easiest way to find it is under action - server name/mod name = Broken Lands (CEP)
If you'd like I can speak with the couple who host it as well.

try arleah. I used to be a big player there until I moved on to Mithrils hammer: the North (FR campaign)
I always had a blast there. The rp in those two is good (not as much as Avlis) and there is a good deal of adventuring with others if he wants to kill something.
Those two PWs are really excellent and I would say they are among the best I have ever played.

Arleah. I had a lot of really good friends there. I am serious. It really rivals Avlis for sheer involvement, depth, and DM interaction. Those guys ROCK!!!!

One I used to play on a lot was NWN:UO.
Mostly it's played by the people who hang out at UOPowergamers.
Definitely Hack'n Slash, lot of friendly players, some fun and easy starter quests.
Here's a link to their forum. You can check out their FAQ here as well.Oh yes,and no HAKs to download, unless they added some in the last 6 months.
