Did I screw up or is this a bug

This has happened twice to me.
I put my sword into my magic bag and find it disappears. That wasn't so bad since it was only a +1 longsword and easily replaced.
Last night it happened again and it was my armor which was mithril splint and cost me a lot of gold. I cannot replace this armor so I need to ask you guys if it is a bug or am I doing something wrong. This was not the same as not having enough room in your inventory so it drops it on the ground this is when I go into my greater magic bag which always has space for my sword shield and armor.
I lost it last night in Elysia and did not notice today until I wanted to go and fight something.
Any ideas what happened?

2 possible reasons:
1: you were PickPocketed. However it should have been returned to you OOC as your not allowed to take anything above 2 squares in your Inventory.
2: the server crashed just after buying the sword, which would mean it did not get saved onto the server vault.

or you didn't actually have room in the bag and the item dropped on the ground without you realizing it. this has happened to many people before as well.

Actually, if you try to put an item from your inventory into a bag and the bag is full it stays in your inventory.

true.. I guess I was thinking of an inventory being full and trying to take off armor.. which could still have happened if your bag was full and your inventory didn't have room for the armor..

Pretty sure if you take someting equiped and directly attempt to place it on a full bag it will drop even if you have room in your inventory.

I remember something being said a while back about quickslots and items vanishing (can't remember exactly what) . Were you using quickslots by any chance?

Yes that is how I noticed both items were missing, went to equip them using the quickslots and they were gone.
I was hoping I could get this replaced but it seems it happens to lots of people. Unfortunately this was by far by best possession.
I posted an IC reward to roleplay its return. I will hope for the best.

Don't get mad at me for asking the obvious, but did you look in your character's inventory and all your magic bags? I know I have some items that aways fall off the quickslot because I store them in bags, but the items are always in the bags, I just have to reassign the quickslot each time I play.
good luck!

I have had that happen too. Fortunately the things lost were just simple things, nothing that I could not replace. (Not that I have anything valuable

)

Thanks for the response everyone. I have done all the above. And definitely looked in every bag I owned, it was easier and less humilating than posting this message (hence the title). I felt really bad since it was a pretty good magic item (for me anyway).
I wonder if Psyco had a good point or not. Both items were in the quick slot when they disappeared. Just really want to find out if it is a bug others have experienced.

I can confirm that this is true, because I've dropped my scythe more than once because of this. Safest thing is to always unequip to inventory, then put in bag.

Cacuus,
I did something the other day very much like you describe. I was collecting beetle bellies, and had to rearrange my inventory to hold more. I moved a very valuable (and borrowed!) item into a bag, then continued on. Later, I couldn't find the item. I looked and looked in every bag. Then I went back to where I'd been when I put it in the bag, but I hadn't dropped it.
The answer was - I didn't put it in my bag - I accidentally mistook an open "remains" window as an open bag window. So I essentially shoved this valuable item back into the beelte corpse from which the belly was extracted. When I went to the oddly-persistent "remains" pile and opened it, there was the lost item.
Perhaps this has happened to you?

Another thing that I've notice recently is that something things appear to randomly drop. I have removed my helm and put it in my inventory, most time it goes in fine but sometimes it drops. A couple of times I didnt notice until later but fortunately it was still where I dropped it. Other times other people noticed. Now I watch carefully since my helm cannot be replace.
And I've taken to use the unequip button as well but since it's random I dont yet know if that is foolproof.

I have never had anything randomly drop. Sometimes your inventory doesn't appear instantly, and you'll try to place it on top of something that hasn't shown up yet and it will be displaced and lost. If you try to take it off during lag, sometimes it will take forever to deequip, and if you move you won't deequip it. Also during lag sometimes you'll deequip several things at once, and stuff will fall.
Deequipping stuff via quickslots in particular is the easiest way to lose stuff, as oftentimes you'll deequip it and it will drop, but as you didn't see your inventory you won't notice you don't have enough space and it will fall.
