Is such a thing possible? If I wanna run the DM client and a normal player client at the same time?

You need another copy of NWN and the expansion.

Well, I can't get multiple copies to even try to run... never get a message about a cd key in any way shape or form.
I have like 3 sets of discs now, so the key itself isn't the problem. Did you all have seperate installation directories going or ..?

It can be done with the dedicated server and a client copy.

I have a dedicated server running on a totally seperate machine. What I wanna be able to to is have a player object connected to my server and a DM client connected to the server at the same time so I can test out various scripts and the like and see exactly how everything pans out in addition to practicing with the DM client without risking injury to someone:P

It is NOT uncommon to not be able to run multiple instances of the same
game. It is likely that it can NOT be done with NWN without some sort of
hack.
Besides which, I can think of a million reasons not to try to do this on Avlis...

Agreed. Attempting this on Avlis would not be a fantastic idea.

If you did want to, you'd need two seperate machines using two different CD Keys.
Don't do it on Avlis though.

Umm, you have to know the DM password on Avlis to log in to it with a DM client... so that's pretty much out of the question.

they just talked about multiple instances of the same game no word about dm client in avlis in the last few posts

You can run both at the same time in Linux, I think.

Prollem is that my Linux box is way too low horsepower to display a large module. It can handle serving them, but the graphics capability on it is shit. Ah well, I"ll figure it out.

*grins* Problem solved, get a new Linux box.
Just got word on a sweet deal that's gonna net me a pair of AMD (screw Intel) 64 FX-51 processors dirt cheap, basicly gonna pay %75 of the price of a single processor and get 2... I love my job

Just gotta score some motherboards, or hold on until someone pops out a board that'll handle two of the processors and I can slap Linux on this box (Athlon 2800+ w/ GA-7VAXP, dual 80GB 7200 RPM ATA133 drives in RAID 0, 2GB of PC3200, GeForce4 Ti4200 128MB 8X)... no more problems running whatever there:)

The only good reason I could think of doing this (and I have two copies of NWN, but just one copy of SoU, I would have to buy another copy of SoU) would be for having my 4A quartermaster character sort of "standing guard" in the guildhouse while I play with my alt character. But, then I run into the single character vault issue and all the headaches that might cause. I really can't think of any other reason to try this, 'cause well, unless ya have four hands (one set per keyboard

) you're running the risk of playing both characters poorly.
edit: um yeah, I meant playing one instance of NWN on one 'puter and a second instance on another 'puter.. yeah, that's what I meant

I know someone who DMs and plays at the same time. That's another use.

I just want to be able to learn the nuances of the DM client without having to have real players around to assist, and vice versa. The learning process... grand, ain't it?

I learnt nearly the whole DM client when I first got NWN just screwing about on my own mod and the official campaign.

It doesn't seem as though there's that much to it now that I"ve played with it... that isn't obvious, I mean. I'd still like to see what features do and don't work on players and how they work differently on players than on NPC objects... but, eh. Now it's more a matter of doing it cause no one knows how
