Also: What are studs?

Since im not a native english speaker i sometime stumble over some words.
Studs is one. i was unable to find out what it means...
i believe it is some kind of nail or chainpart... can anyone clear this up for me?
(i mean the studs from blacksmithing like 'iron studs')

Stud: A small knob, nail head, or rivet fixed in and slightly projecting from a surface.
Studs: More than one of the above

A stud is like a metal button. On armor, studs are placed spaced in rows and columns to add a small bit of protection.

Back in the day, they were also worn by heavy metal bands like Iron Maiden and Judas Priest, for fashion. Maybe also for protection ...

Still are. Can't imagine Halford without studs and ludicrous leather costumes.
See also: Bullet belts (or AA batteries in Sepultura's case), denim jackets (ripped), band t-shirts (ripped-off), leather trousers (too tight), 'jams' (too gaudy), bruises, long hair (messy).
