Crafting

And since I am at it (read post on UMD) I would like to ask question on the matter of crafting and experience. I believe that the crafting people get to get a lot of xp from preparing brews and weapons and stuff. Call me numbskull but I never realized you get to have character xps besides crafting xps. In fact only recently I was told how it works and cried: "so that's what all these xp:0 meant"
My character has very middling intelligence (10). I also never though that Lore should be a part of her skills since I didn't have her deal with the occult or other strange knowledge (talk about my definition of Lore). Anyway to cut a long story short I get to have normal crafting xp and no regular xp. That does strike me a bit as weird. However the question is simpler; is the xp formula known so that I don't just hit the wall next time? Does it require Lore, Int, aught else, all of the above? I can only afford to give some Lore points just to break the 0, meaning I do get to learn some stuff by being a 2nd level alchemist, so I wouldn't want to give to Lore and get nothing due to other requirements.

I don't want to get a lot of xp, just anything but 0.
Damn it seems I get to bump on all the fences...

When was the last time you crafted something? Lore hasn't been a factor in character XP for quite some time.

Somewhere in end July should be an accurate reply...

Lore is now a factor in crafting XP, not character XP, I believe..

i think you only get the 0 Char Xp when the item you are crafting is 2 or more levels below your skill level.
not 100% sure on that though

You get 0 experience for everything when you craft an effortless item.
Since the changes in June/July, Lore only affects the amount of CRAFTING experience that you get. Before late June/early July, experience was set up so you got up to double character experience by having more lore. Since this left a hole in the system for powergaming at the least and exploiting at the worst, the system was changed. Lore in no way affects character experience now, and character experience is a fixed 3/4 of the inital crafting expeirience. The initial crafting experience can be doubled by having higher lore.
so we have two types of experience: character and crafting. Since the changes, you get somewhere between ok to pisspoor character experience which is the way it ought to be anyway. Additionally, for those character that want to be die hard crafters and don't care if they ever see the light of level 20, or even 10+, they can stack up on the Lore and advance quickly in their crafting field while not advancing very fast as a character.

I'd like to say to anyone who'll listen that I really like the change to the XP scripts, I think they're quite balanced now.... well done Team

Crafting advancement is not painfully slow, but slow enough to dissuade those without the patience for it.
Character advancement is about right too... it's a nice side effect to the crafting, kind of like getting an XP cookie for doing something other than killing things, but it's nowhere near enough to be exploited. You'd do better going out and killing things.
Cheers,
kRo

i agree completely... the changes are much more balanced, even considering the new crafting menu updates and such.

See, this is an idea I am going to try - I want a PC who doesnt adventure, but just crafts his way through life, eventually, when he gets to a reasonable level of crafting skill, he will "go public" of a sort and start selling and supplying others. I am hoping that a trade route system enters into the system by then.

Once again I want to thank the community for answering in such a clear and immediate way. I believe I will try to brew some potions again just to make sure all goes well.
I don't think there is anything effortless I
can prepare yet, but eventually I'll get there

.
As for xps it's not like I want to powergame. If I did I wouldn't have stayed a 3rd level character for a month

. Actually I enjoyed
immensely the fact that she now can cast higher level spells, since I worked so hard to get them. Victoria being my first spellcaster ever, I also get to enjoy her more by reaching the higher echelons slower.
I just didn't want to be completely left out of the game. That's why I asked for a way to get more than 0 character xps, in a world where characters get to jump levels this way. Yes I know. A bird told me.

Well said Kag! The fun is in the journey after all, not in the destination

I've been playing my main character since the start of the year, and still got a long way to go. You get see many other characters start off, catch up with you, surpass you and then completely disappear (only to start a new one and do the whole thing again).
Keep, slogging away at it - IMHO it's much more rewarding than racing your character ahead at the fastest possible rate.
Of course, there are some characters that seem to have stopped progessing altogether ! Er... I'll let Liartes explain why he's been 10th level for as long as anyone can remember

While leveling up can be fun, the greatest fun comes from an RP session like I just had.
and on the note of leveling.
Pollio started in early May......is level 8, most of the people who started around his time are 12+, with some 15+ now.
You stick out a character and keep them for the long haul and everything gets a lot cooler.
