Timing Out While Direct Connecting

Hello, I'm a new player and I can't seem to connect to the servers. I've tried Direct connect with both world.avlis.org and 198.101.12.59, ports included. I've turned my firewall off, restarted NWN and so forth. It simply attempts until it times out. I've tried Mikona and Le'Or.

Fisrt question is are you using
NWNCX or some sort of
HOSTS file override to bypass the missing BioWare Master Server check? Not using one of those would add a lot of delay to things, but you should still get in.
*edits* 0.0.0.0 nwn.master.gamespy.com is another entry that should be in your HOSTS file, if you use that method. NWNCX uses the replacement server address for client server listings instead. *updates the original*
Second is in my sig, but here's the direct post link:
Modifying nwn.ini and nwnplayer.ini (nifty tricks)

Fixing connection problems:
This has come up several times in the last few weeks with new players and the reunion stuff, where some have a hard time connecting to certain servers here, yet others work fine. I still don't know why this helps, but under [Profile], change:
to:
Or set it even higher. Some use 5140 or higher, but all that matters is that you don't use the default 5121.
*Special Note* If you have 2 (or more) people playing NWN on the same shared connection, you MUST use different port numbers in this setting, or you will cause all sorts of problems (ghost PCs that never log out after you quit and other weirdness).
*note* I think the default port is 5120, not 5121, but both seem to have issues.
If that doesn't help, can you check the exact line used in direct connect? It should be either world.avlis.org:5121 or 198.101.12.59:5121 (assuming Mikona for the 5121 port, so whatever other you are trying for each server is fine).
P.S. That NWNCX loader restores the server list tab functionality, to click on them for connecting too, though we are now listed as 'Avlis' under 'Role Play' (we moved from PW story). Favorites and history also work.

If you're running a newer versin of windows, you might have to do something like.. find notepad, right click on it and say run as administator. Then from within notepad, do a file open and find your .ini file to make the changes and save them that way. I know if you make any windows host file changes you'll have to do it this way.

Yup, Windows is annoying if you installed to the default 'Program Files (x86)' directory too. I avoid installing to protected folders for most older stuff. Plain old Programs or Games folders skip a lot of hassles.
*edits* Some linkage about what krackq was saying, and
running as admin to edit .ini files and basically the same info if you need to
edit HOSTS (second one has visual aids).

I managed to change the port to 5122 and even 5140. It didn't help any. I will look into alternatives. I'm not using NWNCX so that may help
