Max on skill bonus?

Heya,
don't know if this is the right place to make the tread but:
I was wondering if there, and if so how high, is a cap to the maximum amount of bonus skill points you can gain,...
for instance If you have like four Items with +10 to bluff and another one with +6 is the total bonus then 46 or..? is there a maximum of items that may give a bonus..? so say only three of the five items giving the bonus.. so a max of 30 could be given.. or is it a max of just a number.. say +50 max to any skill..?
just curious.. perhaps there may be a tread about this but I don't know where to look...
thanks in advance..
Missian

The maximum bonus you can get from spells (and spell-like effects) and items is indeed +50. Any number of spells and items can be used to reach this cap (just keep in mind that some spells override rather than stack with others).
Bonuses from other sources such as feats, ability bonuses, invested skill points etc. stacks with this limit.
The very maximum limit varies between skills due to a different availability of bonuses from feats but the max is somewhere around 120-130.

I may be proven wrong, but as far as i am aware, the maximum you can finally achieve with items / stat modifiers / skill focus and epic skill focus / and base skill points, is 127.
I could be wrong, Im going to check just for you later today
Checked and yeah 127 was the highest

Wemics have a chance of getting 129 Discipline, unless my math is way off.

Yeah, that's not counting racial bonuses
I don't know exactly how it's calculated, but the only people that can even get close to that are DMs, since PCs can't get a stat that high

No its capped at 127, I made a level 30 rogue 10 shadow dancer with skill focus hide, epic skill focus hide, stealthy and maxed hide, then upped its dex to 50 then buffed to dex of 62 and gave it +50 hide gear, it wouldnt budge above that 127 mark no matter what i did. Tried the same with appraise, even upped the INT stat to 255 for a modifier of 122, with 43 basepoints, still had 127 skill in it.

Size does matter. Discipline has a size mod, if I remember correctly. So you would get a +2 for being large...

STR: (18+7+10+10+12 = 57) 23 points
RANKS: 43 points
GEAR: 50 points
FEATS: 13 points
TOTAL: 129 points
Equals out to 129 - could be that the engine is capped at 127 for all I know

nwmblondy already gave an example, but 127 is quite doable with normal dex and all the feats too. Hide and seek anyone?

I'm up for a game of hide and seek. Gorgon, GR and I can go hide, just don't let Div or Lafreth seek.

a 40 bard can hit 127 lore easily.

Pfft, GR is a wannabe

I'd be curious what a good listen vs ms test would do though.
*edits* and Lafreth only sounds scary, but he's blind as a bat compared to other folks these days.
Div.. yeah, lets not go there

It's probably that 127 is just the limit of whatever datatype bioware stored skill point values in, since it's one less then 2^7 (computer scientists count from zero), but why they would use a datatype that's 7 bits instead of a full byte is beyond me. The amount of memory saved would be negligible at best.

It's a signed char. -128 to +127

doh. For some reason, I forgot skills can have negative values.

Yep! Example: nwmblondy, typing.

just as a side note, it's a shame that knowing the system limit is 127, that they wouldn't factor that in to calculations, so that some systems start to break down with high numbers like that.
For example, traps, a PC sets an epic trap with set dc of 80, the disarm dc of that trap automatically is like 160+
