The World of Avlis

So i am sorting through my old CD discs and what do i find.

The lost numbers for my Swiss bank account.. nope
The must play game i bought in 2001 and never played .. almost

I found my saved games for the original campaign of NWN from 2003. Strange to say despite having the game for 6 years and being a member of Avlis for 5 years i never finished the original campaign. I don’t remember why i did not finish it maybe another game came along maybe i can blame Avlis i joined around that time.

After a bit of messing i actually got one of the saves to load. For some reason the last save would not work but the quick save and Auto saves would load and run. Maybe the number of patches since 2003 were to much for it.

I found my self in act 3 with a level 13 Sorcerer remember level 20 was the maximum level then. It will be interesting to try to finish the campaign.

I wonder how many of us have ever finished the original NWN campaign. And how many of us have a large pile of games we never finished. Games that were great for a while but then something better came along

I never finished the OC - or any of the expansion campaigns either. I played a lot of community built modules, and found them generally much better that the official offering. Once I exhausted those, I turned to the PWs and eventually ended up here after the small perma-death server (possibly the nicest PW I encountered in terms of systems, realism etc, but not many areas) closed down.

Played all the OC's and completed them all. I remember enjoying them.

HotU, did it all after 2 or 3 years in Avlis. SoU, got maybe 1/4 the way through the first chapter after several tries over the years. The OC? I think I made it outside the first building a few times. City outside, right? I remember a big gate out there too.

I bought nwn because I wanted to play D&D online with other people. I came to Avlis because it seemed like the best place to do just that. Almost 5 and a half years later...

I'll try more single player stuff one of these years *admits he has tried a few custom mods, but only for a quick bit of fun*.

Watching my better half play the OC was what made me try a computer game at all. The story was fascinating, I so wanted to explore it through and through! So under his directions, and not without utter failures and a lot of poking fun, I played through it myself; then the expansions as they came. We were soon running a server with a version of the Nordock module, independant from GameSpy. As to why: Let's face it, few gamers in my country could afford a legal copy of NWN by the time it came out. Then again about the same time I discovered CoPaP and down went the bandwagon ...

Ah, Nordock. I place all blame on that mod.

I did the OC and HotU twice each I think. SoU twice too, but once was with my level 16 post-OC PC so it was super easy.

I did the OC like three times for each of them (Shadows sucked, by the way. Major bug that would crash you out a bunch of times). I actually never played a monk in the OC, always went fighter/rogue for the ridiculous sneak attack. Did the RDD/WM/Monk with flaming kama's of death and dev crit, just to see if it could be done. The only one I ever finished the game with was the fighter/rogue, though.

By the time I got around to buying NWN, the two expansion packs were already out. I tried to go through the OC several times, but never could finish. I did finish HOTU though. Any free video game time I have goes strictly for Avlis, because its is way better to interact with other players/dms rather than try to min/max a character to roll through a static module.

Despite only playing online for a few months, and owning NWN for years I've never finished any of the campaigns, got to Act 3 of the OC before (and Act 2 of the OC on another game), and Act 3 of HotU, though never finished it.
Surprising, as I have quite a lot of finished games, though I also have many unfinished ones.
It seems many RPGs I have aren't finished (never finished BG1 or 2, Dungeon Siege, Diablo 2 (did finish the normal game, but not the expansion, and only after many years of owning it), or Morrowind, but that was HUGE and would take you forever to finish everythng, but never finished (or started) any of the main quests (I also blame Oblivion for making me impatient with no fast travel or a fatigue bar that doesn't decrease while running), or really started the NWN2 I bought) though there are many other games I haven't finished.
I tend to jump around games quite often, though I have had some games I've powered through just because they were so good (Bioshock, Half-Life 2 and Episodes 1 & 2 come to mind).
I have also never, ever finished a game of Total War (except one short game on Rome just to unlock everything) despite me owning everything up to and including Rome: Total War.

I bought all 3 versions of Guild Wars and have never palyed them, though NWN I did finish, HoTU I think I got to the final chapter. Now BG 1+2 I played a few times, often soloing!

I think I tried Nordock for a brief time.

I completed the OC, started SoU and didn't even begin HotU.

As for other games, I've got a pile I bought and never finished, from RPG's to FPS'. Just off the top of my head those include but are definitely not limited to Half-life2, Morrowind, Freedom Force2 (finished the first one). I always end going back to Avlis and sports games.

Have played through the OC and explansions multiple times long before I ever heard of Avlis, redid all of them again a few months back and have done a few times over the years. Finish most games i get. Over the last 4 months or so Ive played and finished; Gears of War, Dawn of War and the first two expansion packs, Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic 1 and 2 (played through both as a good version of Darth Maul ) And every now and then Ill play a bit of football manager. And of course NWN2, finished the first game and the second, btu until this very moment Id forgotten i havnt finished the 3rd explansion pack.

(Probably worth nothing that over these 4 months i spent 3 of them unemplyed)

Also I never completed Final Fantasy 9, which is really annoying...

Played all the official campaigns and enjoyed them all. They got better as they went along.

Playing Avlis was actually the first time I'd ever played a game online.

I never got past Chapter 3 in the OC but I did finish both of the others.

Never even played the campaigns in any of the expansions and cant remember anything form the OC apart from smacking bandits in the slums .....maybe next time I have some time and got no internet !

Original campaigns where cool except HoU... was boring.

Any one finished Elders Scroll II - Daggerfall? Took me 6months and nothing. (Very old game)

daggerfall was badass but sooooooooo buggy. It was unplayable out of the box. I think there were 23 patches for that game.

I've played Morrow Wind, is that in the same game set? If it is I thought it was pretty cool, especially with the potions you could make!

Morrow Wind is game 5 years younger, and was pretty easy and nice to play. Loved the dark elf society.
Morrow wind was going on small island... while Daggerfall on whole word. You could have your own ship and sail across the seas, drink or cast levitation, jump on your hourse and ride the sky

...makes me think of my Might & Magic VI, VII addiction. Flyyy! Archery air strikes ;) The other title I found myself addicted to was ADOM. Never got to finish any of those games, though.
But I do finish Fallout 1 & 2 once a year, and I still enjoy playing Diablo 1. :)

You can play other games/modules/adventures with NWN besides CoPaP?

I bought NWN specifically to play on Avlis

I've never made it through any of the single player mods in nwn or nwn2.I now avoid anygame with only single player mode, it's the thought of knowing I'm only beating or playing with an AI. I like unpredictable human reaction/ interaction .

I was a veteran of GPL online gaming (1967 GP racing) and you didn't just jump online right away...you needed to learn how to drive first. I thought the same here

but I needed to learn how to RP after I got here...some would say I never learned
