Can anyone give me an idea of a beneficial way to use Charm Person? (Aside from casting it on a creature in combat so that creature won't attack you.) Thanks.

Prenzelum often uses it on critics to get praise. of course people have to work with you RPing along with it. I bet the DMs would play around on it if you are ever in a quest.

Really in combat color spray is 200x better then charm person. Charm person just has an RP side to it.

Ok, thanks. Just curious: how do PCs and DMs usually roleplay the "wearing off" of the spell, as it has a very short duration? Do they remain receptive to what ever you convinced them to do? Or do they freak out and yell that you charmed them? I wish it was like the PnP where the duration was VERY long.

I normally extend it but I still get the "what did you do to me reaction" when it's over.

Yeah, I can see it now... Charm victim: "What foul magics did you place on me???" Prenzelum: "Why sir, I was merely weaving a spell to protect myself from harm! How dare you imply I attempt to enchant you?!" Anything like that? Just curious about one more thing: When you Charm another PC, are they free to act or do they just stand there dazed?

Normally, Charm person make the charmed person free to act, with the charmers wishes as primarely goals. How he achives those goals is up to his interpretation, unless asked by his friend to do things in a certain way. Still, c.p. never makes on do suicidal things on the new "friends" behalf.

Hehe, as to what happens when you don't charm people... Prezellum constantly cast invisibility on people. Now on char of mine takes objektion, and dispels the invisibility by slapping Prenz in the face... ufortunately, the NWN engine adds sneak attack into the equation.

It's basically increased friendship to a specific person that they can try to save against.

The 2nd level spell of eagles splendor will increase charisma and make them a bit more likable to everyone, but charm person is a bit more power to only one person who gets a save against it and it only effects that persons opinion of the caster and nothing else.

In actuality the stun is more of a pain in the butt and I general ignore that bioware gave it that effect and many people will RP along with it's casting as if they are charmed for a while. Some will RP along for the wird half second duration some for a slightly longer duration.

I don't know the 3rd edition actual duration thuogh. I kinda stopped buying AD&D stuff sense second edition. I wish that spell of charm person could be altered to just a bunch of server messages along the proper duration. Bioware almost had the right idea when they put the spell in almost implementing something that isn't about beat monster on head then they screwed it up but altering it to a weird stun effect.

That's just rambling on though.

Charm person sure helps in sales.

according to 3E players handbook, Charm Person should last 1 Hour/Level

Maybe they should've made it change the alliegance of npc's/monsters to friendly to you, and fall under your party temporarily, etc. though that would be messed up if it happened to a PC... maybe script it so that way the caster has relative invicibility to the target, so the targeted character/whatever can't "attack" him(primary combat use) until the duration is over, but be dispelled the instant the caster harms the target(like I recall happening in BG if you charmed a monster or npc and then attacked them...). Dunno, just some ideas/suggestions if they're possible. though since I'm not familiar with NWN scripting as of yet, I may be out of my mind by suggesting it, LOL.

I used charm person in the single player campaign one time when the NPC would not tell me something. Charmed her and tried again.

If you try the Witchbane: Field of Battle Module you can see many opertunities to try and modify a NPC reaction using either persuade or charm person. This could easily be added to Avlis.

The other thing would be to use it to reduce your boat costs by charming the captain and then dikering.

I think that Bioware intended the spell to be only used in conversations with NPCs and that is why the duration is so short.
