I'm curious what the national colors for deglos are, and also about the government, is there a king NPC or something? Thanks

Thanks for the fast reply, anyone know the colors though if there is any? I'm thinking to do something with some guild armor and wanted the national colors to be on them.

I was just reading the avlis marriage customs thread and read the link to the wiki
wiki/index.php/Marriage_Customs#Deglos_and_Galdos specifically the deglos/galdos part. Now, in there it says:
...One might answer that the first King of Deglos married a gnome and abdicted afterwards...
I thought this was odd after reading pathos' link which said:
...The government of Deglos is a system of trade guilds...
I'm a little confused.

can someone please clarify for me? Thanks

Here you go.
King Redrick Gald III (of Galdos), who ruled during that era, decided to avert war by appointing his son Rupert Gald the King of the South. He awarded the land of the southern clans to King Rupert, and told them to depart peacefully. Rupert, who was married to a gnome, immediately dispersed the monarchy and set the country to rule by guilds. Thus Deglos was born from Galdos.

Also this:
When it was part of Galdos, Deglos was a monarchy. However, its principle inhabitants of gnomes and dwarves have long since gained independence from Galdos to form their own nation. As a nation, Deglos is fairly neutral aligned, but they have some chaotic tendancies.

The king abdicated from the throne and the monarchy was dissolved; ergo, a system of trade guilds developed to replace the monarchy.

Just to clarify, the trade guilds didn't "develop" did they ?
They were given control, no ?
With the High Guild Council kinda overseeing everything ?

The only guild you need to worry about in Deglos is the Deglos Brigade...and they trade just about everything.
....ale
....weapons
....knuckles
....insults
....stories
....kisses (if you are lucky or unlucky dependin on the member which might lead to the knuckles listed above)
....precious metals
....just about anyting

Heh, the Order of Gorethar has a strong presence there as well, but it's totally unofficial. They don't muck about in Deglosian politics.

From what I understand, there's a guild for just about anything. The Deglos Brigade is a branch of the Deglosian Guild of Security and Investigation. (IE: The Deglos Police).
Then there'd be a guild for just about every trade or occupation. Miner's guild, blacksmiths, quarrymen, shoemakers, ect.
I think only the largest or most promenient guilds have representatives on the guild council...
Then again, I'm not a team member, maybe Gurky or someone else with Deglos knowledge can clear up more. =D

The HGC (High Guild Council) is seen as the official head of state and the government a confederation of all these corporate guilds. I can't off the top of my head find a RL equivalent but then I'm no student of government. But yes, they were given control (see below).
Two things influenced the development of Deglos-type dwarves (and eventual split from Galdos): the presence of Fegall during the Demonspawn wars, who approached things quite differently than the typical Galdosian. The additional development and presence many years later of the gnomish race also influenced this.
Another important thing is the problem that many of the dwarves were just really far away from the north; they started to not believe in the monarchy up north (the Galds). Eventually the Gald who was down south (prince Rupert) also started thinking differently; in fact, he married a gnome, converted to Fegall and then adbicated after a few years - giving control over the most influential trade guilds that by then had grown: ergo, the High Guild Council.

You may remember a representative of the Nanshi Urbaz Mining Guild before the city was razed. Paraphrasing the sourcebook, villages tend be "organized" around crafts or other specializations (Marazin might research impervious metals, Bazgamph might research defensive structures).
<My opinion and interpretations>
I've always made up guilds as I go along. My character before I started DMing belongs to G.O.O.D. and I've often had Deglosian PCs I control come from other guilds such as G.I.R.L.
To fit with the chaotic nature of Deglos, I've always imagined there may be thousands of trade guilds, many specializing in something unique such as G.E.E.E. (the Guild of Egg Essence Extraction) or G.O.O.F. (the Guild of Oscillating Object Formation). That's wholly my interpretation of how things work in Deglos, though.
