Ghost Elf & Hide

Just a quick question here. Because a Ghost Elf has a 5' green glow, does that make hiding impossible?
Would Hide in Plain sigh help?
anything else?
Thanks in advance.

As I understand it, light sources of anykind do not prevent one from hiding, they just apply penalties, or give spot check bonuses or something like that. You could walk around with a torch and still hide, as I understand it, you are just likely not going to be very successful. I have no idea what the penalties are, unfortunately, though I'm sure someone out there does.

Malathyre is correct. A light source (e.g. torch, ghost elf hide, some spell effects) lowers your Hide check, but does not prevent it. Likewise, hiding in a bright area is more difficult than hiding in a shadowy one.
Hide in Plain Sight does not modify your Hide check, but instead allows you to Hide while being observed.

Actually, I'd kind of like to know how all the bonuses work.
From the owners manual:
"Wearing armor or using a torch inhibits this ability ((duh)), but low light CAN provide a bonus" ((emphasis mine)). Personally, I'd like to know what the heck they mean by that.

They mean when the light is low, you get a bonus to Hide. They don't mean that ADDING low light helps one Hide. It's ambiguously worded and confusing.

To be precise, most lit items other than a torch incurs a -4 penalty on your hide check. A torch does -6, I think, plus it may incur a MS penalty too, but I'm not positive on that.
The -4 is for the standard 15 ft light range that most items have... I would think a larger range would increase the penalty.

Thanks, damn ambiguity, wait a minute! I can't complain, ambiguity was the greatest literary achievement of the past century and provides jobs for many literary critics!

I take it that the -4 modifier (or what ever it is) does not show up anywhere that it can be verified right?

It's basically one of the things you should know before playing a Ghost Elf.... being a ghost elf rogue will not make you the best at hiding, cuz you freek'n GLOW! bwahaha
But not every race is good for every class, yunno?
Nor should it be.

It's fun to try and rob houses when you glow in the dark!

If the Hide penalty for a 15' radius of light is only -4, it stands to reason the Ghost Elf's 5' radius would be an insigificant penalty. Unless bioware uses the same -4 penalty for any type/intensity light source.

Anyone know how I can REMOVE the permanent "Light" source casted on my longbow (by a well intentioned friend)?

I would ask the friend, or another mage. Surely they have some way of demagifying things.

could leave it in a persistent chest until server resets. That would do the trick. Otherwise as far as I know you are stuck with it. I could of sworn it was supposed to be dispellable but I have tried with no luck.

No it isn't dispellable (don't you ever read those little hints as the game is loading?), but your P-chest idea would definitely revert it back to it's original state after a reset. Good idea!

Straight from the spell description of continual flame:
"This creates a magical flame that burns as bright as a torch until dispelled."
Thats in game too not from pnp. But I have used dispell magic and greater dispell to no affect even though I cast continual flame at a much much lower level then I am now. But perhaps you could still rp it being dispelled find a mage to dispell it and then stick it in your chest and call it good.

The miraculous trick of using a persistant chest & a server reset to effect a dispell of the "Continual Flame" casted upon my longbow is so subtle and clever... and belies a depth of Magical Mechanics that.... if used in the wrong hands... could wreak havoc and chaos in all of the mystical worlds of swords & sorcery.
Bless you!
