I am new to the world and wish to play a paladin of some type. I have read the section on holy warriors. Is there anything I have missed? for example playing a Paladin of Toran means yoiu are a justicar? and if so does one have to level to 7ty as a warrior to get qualified? just looking for some clarity so I dont make major mistakes.

The only holy warrior you can play from start is Paladin, which would put you LG and working for Gorethar. The rest are being added as requiring quests or DM actions right now......If I understand it right

A Paladin is one of the nine types of Holy Warriors. Each of the Greater Gods of Avlis has a class dedicated to serving them. Paladins all serve Gorethar (LG), and are the only Holy Warrior class that isn't a Prestige Class (you can start as a 1st level character and be a Paladin, but to be a Champion/Avenger/Justicar/Annihilator/etc. you need to meet the class prerequisites, which normally restricts PrCs to ~8th level and above).
Quests for the Holy Warrior PrCs are coming. All PrC quests are automated, and none require DM intervention. HOWEVER, joining a Holy Warrior PrC requires that the PC belong to the holy order of the God in question - e.g. to become a Blackguard, you'll have to be in Maleki's holy order (the Reavers, or whatever they end up calling themselves

). This is intended to encourage participation in holy orders, and also to give PCs some influence over who can take PrCs.

are holy orders player run or DM run? I prefer to play LN and found Toran a good fit for me. As a new person I want to make sure I start out on the right foot. Where would I find more information on these holy orders?

The holy order for Toran that exists currently is called the Sword of Toran and is run by myself. I'll send you a PM with more information.

No. A paladin MUST be Lawful Good and follow a Lawfull Good diety. Gorethar is the only LG diety in the Avlis pantheon.

I understand that. But the followers of both those deities can be lawful good, should they choose. Therefore, they could also be a Paladin.

99 percent sure that only Goretharians can be paladins on Avlis.

No actually, the Paladin class as it exists on Avlis, is the Holy warrior class of Gorethar and Gorethar alone, if you wish to be a Holy warrior of , say Mikon, then you would be an Equalizor with all the prerequisites and restrictions that implies. Mikon being the god of balance would not sanction a LG Paladin and the actions that implies as I see it.

it's not about whether or not O'ma or Mikon can have LG followers. Paladins MUST be LG and follow a LG diety. there is only one.
And as others have stated, a Paladin is a Holy Warrior, not just a enhanced fighter. So it will be the same for Blackguards, Justicars, Equializers and such.. A Blackguard MUST follow Maleki. An Equalizer MUST follow Mikon. An Avenger MUST follow Dru'El. etc.. this is a good reference to read:

One thing I wasn't clear on...
Do the other Holy Warriors get some of the same basic benefits as the standard Paladin?
For example, Paladins have the blessing of their Gods (Divine Grace?) that allows them to add their Charisma bonus to all saving throws. Does O'Ma extend the same protection that Gorethar does to his Holy Warriors? I've read Orleons post as to what abilties each class gets as the progress in level, but this was not mentioned.

Holy Warriors of various sorts all must worship their specific God. To be a Paladin is to be a Holy Warrior of Gorethar - it's that simple. You cannot be a Paladin of O'Ma any more than you can be a Champion of Gorethar - Paladins are Holy Warriors of Gorethar, Champions are Holy Warriors of O'Ma. Holy Warriors embody their god's attributes and enforce their beliefs on Avlis, and it's important not to confuse 'Holy Warrior' for 'warrior' - Holy Warriors are blessed and recognized by the Gods themselves and have special relations with their Gods (much as do clerics and druids).
All Holy Orders are run by PCs. All the Greater Gods have Holy Orders either existing or being founded now with the exception of Aarilax and Forian, and I'm sure those will come soon.
All Holy Warriors are in some sense similar, and they do tend to get a lot of similar abilities, so the Paladin or Blackguard are useful to get a "feel" for how Holy Warrior classes work. Don't expect any of them to be identical though.

All right! My bad! I guess I didn't realize there was such a solid connection since the Paladin has been a class (and not a prestige one like the others) in the Bioware games for such a long time.

Well that's really only true of Avlis. By default a Paladin can worship any god that accepts a Lawful Good follower, and techinally speaking, a 3e paladin doesn't even need to worship a god.
But on Avlis things work differently.
However you can become a champion of O'Ma or one of the other holy warriors which is much the same as being a paladin, execpt it's a PrC and not a full class.
The Holy Warriors are more or less all equale in abilty.

Thank you all for your feedback and comments they have helped a ton. Myself and about four of my friends, whom I met on another server, are all coming here pending approval. After reading as many posts as I can I am very very impressed with what has been created here. I myself enjoy the challenges and plot lines that Holy Warriors tend to swim in. This world is a dreamscape for those of us who also believe that all gods will have a warrior class who serves them in a similar fasion to a paladin. I cant wait to get in game. I have been pooring over all of the Holy Warriors PrC's and find them all very intresting. I will not be choosing to play a LG Paladin. Yet I will, if approved, be playing a Holy Warrior from one of the wonderful choices. If anyone wants to post here or PM me with any information reguarding a god or a particular one of the choices please do. I would like to make as an informed decision on my first character as possable. Also I wish to begin writing a back ground story for myself.
Thanks everyone,
Arete'
