The Avlis map is kinda ugly ... but ...

... I removed the dust of my Wacom tablet and started to work on a better looking map.
I would be interested in getting more details about the type of the areas (forest, desert, swamp, snow ?) and also the precise location of some major towns if possible.
PM me for details, thanks !

thanks !

You over react before you even know what I'm talking about.
Grrr ... must ... kill ... something ... now !
I am doing a rework of the global Avlis map, not a detailed area map with all the dungeons and other places. It's the map that appears on the mouse pad too. No way this can be considered as a spoiler map.

Arrr ... apparently there is some confusion about the map I want to make.
Some people sent me detailed area maps of the servers ... nice, and well done too, but it's this map I want to enhance, because in my humble little opinion, it looks ugly for such a big server as Avlis :

what style do you want to make the map like?
I also thought about this a few days ago and imagined a map in Karen Wynn Fonstad style... would be great.

If you want, I'll add the dungeon locations specially for you ... and also the 10 locations full of +5 elemental weapons, and the secret sereg cache of Greater belts, of course

I started to work on it, it looks cool. I will certainly not achieve the quality of that map, the guy is very VERY good (visit his site, the link is on the map) but I hope to be able to make something more decent than the actual MSPaint map

I am never against people helping out with artwork. I know I am a bad artist. I failed "cut 'n paste" in kindergarden and it all just went downhill from there. So as you can imagine I spent a lot of my educational and physical development doing things that don't involve drawing. Hence the ugly Avlis map.
So anyway, here is what the colors on the map mean, that should help you:
Light green: plains
Green: forest
Dark Green: jungle
White: arctic/tundra
Yellow: desert
Speckled Yellow: Swamp
Speckled Gray: Wastelands
Black: Mountains
Dark Blue: Rivers
Light Blue: Ocean
If you look at the map REALLY close, you'll see some occasional black dots. There are two in M'Chek. The southern one on the waterfront is Mikona. The one in the north is Blandenberg.
There is one in the middle of T'Nanshi, underneath the lettering if you strain to see it. That's Le'Or T'Nanshi.
On the west coast you'll see a spot that says The Seven Cities. Those dots in there are the Seven Cities. There is an eighth dot just over the border to the north in Brekon. That is the City of Brekon.
In the Kurathene Empire, near the middle there is another dot. That's the city of Kuras, the capitol.
In Jechran there is a spot where a river forks, towards the east. At that fork is the city of Myleah. There is no dot there yet.
In Drotid along the coast, about two-thirds up the coastline where the land comes in a little bit are two citys. The southernmost one is Grantir. Then slightly to the north, no more than 50 miles up is the ruins of Toostan.
In Ferrell, about where the dot that marks the country is, there is the city of Kitanya.
That's pretty much all of them at the moment. We've got a campaign going on in Drotid right now, run by my co-creator, ceardan. He may be doing a few more cities in there, so I'll have to get them from him later.

By the way if you can make a better Avlis map, which I have no doubt you could, I would not hesitate to replace it on the mousepad. It's always in the team's best interest to improve the artwork if it means selling more souveniers.

That's EXACTLY my point and base idea
Thanks for the info, I'll send you a version as soon as I think it's ready for other eyes than mine ...

No kidding. And since you guys paid the Ravens a whole lot for it, you'll want to keep it a secret...

korrigan, if you are doing it for the mousepads it woud be cool if it filled the pad completely. see the cafeshop guidelines for a full-size image, including a bleed area. maybe just drop the border and add more sea around the continent to have an image of the right proportions.
btw, i think that campaing cartographer would be the best tool to make such a map, bacause it's vector-based; this weill make changes much easier at a later time. if you want to obtain more a painting-like effect you can enhance the final image with photoshop or similar programs...

Also I made the original map on Campaign Cartographer, so it would be good.

I'm working with Aura, a kinda Photoshop on steroids. I don't use Photoshop mostly because I coded a part of Aura, and I know the software very well. I'll make sure to adjust the size so it fits completely on a mousepad. If I need to add more sea, no big deal, as I will need space to put some kind of caption for the different terain types. I used the actual map as a base for the contours of the continent, but all the terrain artwork will be totally reworked in a similar fashion than the Middle Earth map I posted above.

as for location... my best guess for Elysia would be near the southern tip of Ferrell, since in-game Elysia is almost due west of Le'or. You actually need to extend that river more north though, since the western edge of Elysia has water (i'm guessing a river inlet) near it if you head west after going out either the Dracon or Dwarf gates
and don't forget the wharves... So Elysia has to be on water
