Vampiric Regeneration

PostAuthor: Dirk Cutlass » Tue Apr 12, 2005 10:21 am

I've never really tried this before. I just tried now, with some Arrows of the Vampire, which claim to have +2 vampiric regernation. I had assumed that this meant that for each arrow hit, I would get 2 HP back.

I did get some HP back, but not every hit. In fact in my short test I only got 2 lots (4 HP) back out of about 10 shots or so.

Does anyone have any experience with this (either on arrows, or on weapons). How does it work?

Thanks in advance.

(Note: I have a sneaking suspicion that it might behave differently on single-player and multiple player .. not sure :? )

my observation (not that i've touched nasty vampiric regen stuff *cough*) is that it seems to have a hidden onhit: percentage - because sometimes it works many times in a row and sometimes not for several rounds.

Maybe it depends on the damage you do ? For example, you hit with a sword with +3 vampiric regeneration, but only do 2 points damage, so you only get 2 HP back? Is it likely that you were only doing 2 points damage?

Don't forget, if you are using a blade with Vampiric Regeneration in your offhand you won't notice the 3 hit points nearly as often for a few reasons. The first and most obvious is that you will only have one or two offhand attacks in a round, and the second is that the offhand is the last attack rolls you will make in a round - main hand attacks always cue up first. So if you have a PC that can land sneaks of 60+ damage, there's a good chance you don't even get to land an offhand attack before whatever you're facing goes down.

Also, don't forget your PC needs to be injured before Vamp Regen kicks in; if you're at full health it obviously won't do a thing. I once used a weapon with +3 Vamp Regen and it worked great... even better when stacked with a few Regen items.

If your weapons is Vamp regen +3, you always get +3. The only time you won't get the +3 is when you are less than 3 hp from max hp

Here's a tangent...what kind of regen items are out there? Someone mentioned a +1 light crossbow that regens. What else do people have that offers regen (as opposed to vampiric regen)?

Heh, so did I. I just failed to add that to my last example, it's been fixed now. :P

AFAIK there aren't many weapons that have normal regen other than that crossbow, vampiric regen is much more prevalent on weapons. However, there are various rings and amulets with regen on them, as well as some custom armours and robes with it added as a property - I can think of a couple offworld items, as well as a couple in the Avlis palette.

My character has druidic platemail, of all things, with regeneration.

*sighs* Regeneration, it has. Pants on the other hand... :P

I have a scythe called the Harpinger's Tool, +2 scythe, +3 vamp. regen. I also have a Scimitar of Fury, +1 vamp. regen.

I can attest you do not get the regen every shot... At first I thought this was simply gaining the HP once per round... but it seems more of a lag issue now, as I sometimes get it and sometimes don't with AoO's. I believe it may be somehow related to the latency of the server, or somesuch...

I have a staff that has vamp regen +1 and i dont ever seem to get healed on a sneak attack. Only once im locked in battle do i ever get a chance to heal from it. Maybe its just random luck, but has anyone gotted healed from it on a sneak?

Hmm, interesting.. which is why I posted before that I thought it wa different between Single Player and Multi-Player. You think maybe it uses a heartbeat or something (well known not to work reliably on multi-player). I'll try it on a single-player mod and see if it is more "reliable".

SP is way more reliable. Enserric the Longsword and the neck-knife can keep someone with 6 attacks a round and a good AB at full hp almost constantly. It must be a difference in the way the weapon registers a round and the Avlis clocks (different time scales).

Yes, I've had it register on sneaks... for me it's usually the first attack of each round where I gain the hp... in high lag situtations the rate decreases.

So, how *does* it work nowadays ?

As I am hoping it will keep me alive I'd love to know when one gets hit points from it.

When you hit something you get some HP back. The problem is that I think it must use a heartbeat script or something to do this, which do not work well on multi-player game (the "beat" seams to get lost or mis-timed). The result is that rather than get X HP back every hit you get X HP back only occasionally (probably depends on lag to some extent). There is no easy solution.

So, it does work, just not as good as in single-player game.
