Red Dragon Disciple allowed for players on Avlis ?

PostAuthor: Soulbinder » Mon Nov 24, 2003 3:30 pm

If HotU is out, and some time later the Avlis servers have been updated, will we be allowed to take levels in the new prestige classes ? Especially in the Red Dragon Disciple ?

I already inquired about the shifter, which I think would suit perfectly for my char IC. The answer was that these things will be decided after the team get their hands on HotU. And it will take some time..

*rolls eyes*

Here we go again...

Any HotU PrCs will probably make it in, unless we find some compelling reason to keep it out of Avlis (like with the Harper from SoU).

When will we know that?

When we've seen what they can do precisely and have thought about how it will affect Avlis. Estimate: a few weeks after HotU comes out and we've had the chance to view it and discuss it.

How will they be implemented?

If they go in they will require questfulfilment before you can take ranks, just like we're doing with the SoU PrCs. Our questbuilders are good, but no supermen, this is all still unpaid work. The fact that we're still coding the quests for the SoU PrCs now should give you an indication how long this will take before Red Dragon Disciple is really available.
So much fun,
yet so little time to enjoy it.

A simple rule of thumb for PrC's.

If the PrC is generic, it will most likely be allowed on Avils. This means things like Shifters, Archane Archers, Pale Master. (I'm not saying those all will be allowed, but it's likely.)

If a PrC is FR focued, it will not be allowed on Avlis. This means things like the Harper Scouts, or Champions of Torm.

We will allow or disallow a PrC based on the reasons Sindol mentioned.

If it's a bad PrC that offers to much power we will likely not allow it, if it doesn't fit with Avlis, we will not likely allow it.

But until we actually see the PrC's we can't say for sure what we will do.

Additionally, if you play on a forgotten realms CoPaP world and earn your first level of PrC in that world, you can then come to Avlis and still earn levels in it. So in effect, the answer is yes, you can be any PrC in Avlis. You just can't START the 1st level of many PrC's in Avlis. But hey, that's why we have CoPaP.

*scratches head*

I thought there were only a very few chromatic dragons on Avlis... wouldn't that make the red dragon disciple too focused in Avlis's case?

Maybe for Avlis we call it the generic-whichever-kind dragon disciple.

It's called a Red Dragon Disciple... But only because Bioware didn't feel it was worth the time and effort to model the various forms of wings and other ablities required to cover all the dragon types.

Red Dragon disciple is an example of something that is non-Avlis specific. So you'll have to get the PrC on another world and then bring your character over to Avlis to play it. Use yer brains!

Even if its not allowed on AVlis, its not like its a bad thing. The CoPaP connections are going up and some of them don't have the same restrictions as on Avlis.

If anything, it ENCOURAGES players to leave and visit the other worlds. Thats a good thing at the end of the day.

And although I believe ORl since he's the bossman, I feel like I'm missing a bit of the logic, whether a piece of Avlis background that I somehow missed or something about the Red Dragon disciple, but where is it precisely that they fail to overlap?

There are very few red dragons, or any chromatic/metalic dragons on Avlis. They're not native to this world.

So that would be the reason I think.

The dragons native to Avlis are mineral/rock type dragons, Coal Dragons are one example.

Fighters do it face to face, Rogues may do it from behind, Rangers can do it from a distance, Wizards do it from out of nowhere, Clerics may not do it at all, Barbarians may do it in a rage, Sorcerers can do it on a whim, Bards on a note, but Paladins have to pay for it!
