I keep buying phones with all sorts of gadgets... and all I really need is... a phone. Buying an iPhone is like buying a PS3. Looks really pretty. Faaaaar too expensive.

If it was Verizon, I would probably get it, but AFAIC AT&T cell phone service sucks hard.

I'm cool with the Blackberry my job just gave me, so either way it's ok.

It's got a lot of cool technologies in it. The touch screen, the various motion sensors, the various software widgets... but are they necessary? As pointed out already: if I need a phone, I'll get a phone. Not a giant technological swiss army knife.

After seeing the the several hundred morons standing in line in front of my cellphone store yesterday waiting for 6 pm and giddy as harry potter fans if he were to make a public appearance I decided no fucking way would I touch the iphone, I have a nice phone, a PDA and I hardly listen to mp3's so why do I need something that will probably get me robbed within a week?

I have a moto krazr, it is pretty and blue, very important for a phone. It takes pictures, plays Mp3, connects to the internet, and get this, makes and receives phone calls?!?!

The two most important things about my phone, the fact that I can use it as a phone (OMG WTF?!?) and the fact that it is blue.

When I go to replace my mobile phone, I ask for a phone. No camera, no wireless, preferably no internet access. A phone. That's what I went to buy. I want to come back with a phone.

I don't go out to buy a book only to come back with a laptop because "you can read text on it". Well, ok, I did once, but I also bought the book too.

So, in essence... no.

Why on earth would I want to look at web pages and try to type emails on a tiny screen? They should make something like an iphone, but a lot bigger. It could have a monitor, so it's easier to read and look at whole web pages. It could also have a board with letter-keys on it so you can type with all ten fingers instead of one or two. What an advancement that would be! I bet "giant iphones" will be the wave of the future. Need to call them something classier, though, like "Computer" or something.

I don't need a cell phone with unlimited calling to five arbitrary people who I'd rather talk to in person anyway. You seen my phone bill?
I don't need a cell phone with five thousand minutes a month. You seen my phone bill?

Hell, I don't even really need a cell phone. If you want to get ahold of me, either call me at home (or work, whichever is more appropriate) or shoot me an email. If I'm not either of those places, leave a message on the answering machine or phone mail. I will talk to you on my schedule.

Now, if they had a package that was $10 bucks a month plus a per-minute charge for just voice service (I don't need phone mail - if it's busy, call back later; if I just don't answer, it means I don't want to talk to you right now), I might consider it. I've looked at the pre-pay plans, but coverage sucks, and the only time my wife and I use the phone we have is for travel. I'm not buying $40 worth of minutes every month that expire at the end of the month (that's what prepay plans do - so they're really no different from a monthly plan) that I'm not going to use, and I won't be able to use anyway because coverage is spotty.

Putting more features on a phone, making it "sleeker" or "cooler-looking" is NOT going to motivate me to buy a phone from any company, because no companies are willing to provide a service that suits my needs. Reliable, simple phone service for low cost on an as-used basis.
