Horse Beaters, Beware -- HORSOLICH

PostAuthor: Buddha » Tue Feb 07, 2006 12:17 pm

Ok, I'd been noticing several themes that won't seem to die. Noticing. Like "noticing" a tractor trailer running over your legs. So, in a fit of pique, I created (for your enjoyment):

The Ultimate Thread Ender.

Want Horsolich to peek into a thread to see what's going on?

Now he can!

Alright, I got impatient. Here's the D&D 3.5 compliant Horsolich under the hood:

Horsolich
Large Unedad
Hit Dice: 10d12 (60 hp)
Initiative: +1
Speed: 50 ft. (10 squares)
Armour Class: 15 (-1 size, +1 Dex, +5 natural), touch 10, flat-footed 14
Base Attack/Grapple: +7/+14
Attack: Hoof +4 melee (1d6+1) or touch +4 melee (1d8+5 negative energy plus paralysis)
Full Attack: Hoof +4 melee (1d6+1) or touch +4 melee (1d8+5 negative energy plus paralysis)
Space/Reach: 10 ft./5 ft.; anywhere the Internet is
Special Attacks: Damaging touch, insanity aura, paralyzing touch
Special Qualities: Low-light vision, scent, +8 turn resistance, damage reduction 15/bludgeoning and magic, darkvision 60ft., immunity to cold, electricity, polymorph, and mind-affecting effects, undead traits, other invulnerabilities
Saves: Fort +7, Ref +8, Will +6
Abilities: Str 16, Dex 13, Con —, Int 4, Wis 14, Cha 8
Skills: Hide +5, Listen -15, Move Silently +5, Search +5, Sense Motive -10, Spot +13
Feats Endurance, Run, Power Attack, Cleave
Environment: Forums
Organization: Rarely
Challenge Rating: Always Impossible
Alignment: Any evil, usually chaotic
Treasure: Standard coins, 50% goods, three to nine forum pages standard

Damage: A horsolich's touch attack deals 1d8+5 points of damage to living creatures; a Will save (DC 15) halves the damage.

Insanity Aura (Su): Horsoliches are shrouded in a dreadful aura of death and evil. Creatures less than 5 HD (or a postcount lower than 500) in a 60-foot radius that look at the horsolich must succeed on a Will save (DC 15) or be affected as per the spell insanity. A creature that successfully saves cannot be affected again by the same horsolich's aura for 24 hours.

Paralyzing Touch (Su): Any living creature a horsolich hits with its touch attack must succeed on a Fortitude save (DC 15) or be unable to leave the thread alone, permanently. Remove paralysis or any spell that can remove a curse can free the victim (see page 203 of the Player's Handbook).

Turn Resistance (Ex): A horsolich has +8 turn resistance, making it nearly impossible to drive away even temporarily.

Damage Reduction (Su): A horsolich's undead body is tough, giving the creature damage reduction 15/bludgeoning and magic. Its natural weapons are treated as magic weapons for the purpose of overcoming damage reduction.

Immunities (Ex): Horsoliches have immunity to cold, electricity, polymorph (though they can use polymorph effects on themselves), and mind-affecting attacks.

Other Invulnerabilities (Ex): While horsoliches can be ignored, they can never truly be destroyed. If ever vanquished by conventional means, unconventional means, locking or thread-deleting, the horsolich will return in 1d12 weeks. Horsoliches, unlike their humanoid counterparts, do not need or require phylactaries.

Skills: Horsoliches have a +8 racial bonus to Hide, Move Silently, Search, and Spot checks, as well as a -20 penalty to Listen and Sense Motive.

There's a request in #avlis that we get modellers and coders on this, so make your voices heard in the Players Suggestion Box!

Not to be anal, but shouldn't the name be hippolich? Sounds so much more...authentic...or something like that.

Dear anal :D ,

I also considered hippo-lich, but thought that the scientific latin naming scheme would be lost on many. I just didn't want folks staring at the screen trying to figure out how to wrap a hippopotamus skin around that thing.

Then there was equi-lich, but that just sounded like some Evil Mortgage Company...

EDIT: Oh, and Veras -- I thought about doing the complete writeup based on the 3.5, but just didn't feel like spending the time on it. Glad you filled the void!
