I love the jazz. Nothin' says lovin' like smooth jazz.

It was a toss-up for me between metal and country. I voted metal, but to me they are equally horrid.

Rap is poetry, if that, but is FAR from music.
God give you the grace to purge this place
And peace all around may be your fortune

Oh oh children of the land
Love is still the answer, take my hand
The vision fades, a voice I hear
"Listen to the madman!"
Earth = Rock

Let's see... All of those are generally comprised of some sort of harmonic and melodic material, skeletal or simplistic as they often are... There is also rhythm present in all of the options. Only one lacks all three components simultaneously, Hip-Hop/Rap (there may be the exceptional example in the genre).

So, Hip-Hop/Rap is not "technically" music.

I agree, though I don't think it should have been listed with hip-hop. As much as I hate hip-hop, there are elements of music there.

I give credit where credit is due, rap is hard to perform. Keeping up with the beat/cadence, along the rhyme, and other parts of rap takes practice. But I dont consider it music.

you should retitle this poll - what you meant to say is "which genre of music do you like the least?"

that being said, the one genre I never listen to is country. just because. and because i once went out with a girl who loved country and after i started hating her (but of course dragged out the relationship for as long as possible... im a giver you see) it was only natural to hate everything associated with her.

lovingly yours,

fyrmin

PS everyone who voted for hip-hop/rap is showing CULTURAL IGNORANCE!!!!! RACISTS!
Kumar: How were Katie Holmes' tits?
Goldstein: You know the Holocaust?
Kumar: Yeah?
Goldstein: Picture the opposite of that!

Country: A rant in a really annoying twang

Metal: Damage to eardrums on silicon

Rap: "I hate you, I hate you, I hate you" to what almost sounds like music.

Electronica: This is what is sounds like when the computers cry

Reggea: Not to be consumed when clean and sober

Punk: Teen angst with a beat

Jazz: Fairly close to music, if you like cigars and the hard alcohol

Blue: My life sucks, but at least I can play a harmonica :D

Pop: What 40 year old men listen to when they are looking for a young girl :P

I voted electronica. If a computer can randomly pick 2000 1/8th of a second noises and stick it together and it is considered the peak of the form than it isn't music. All the other ones require human composition, electronica is just digital beeping and booping.

I enjoy some electronica/techno, buts the least like a form of music IMO.

Rap/hip-hop. Melorecitation is not a music. Though I admit, punk is not much closer to the music. Metal is too wide. Some metal ballads are lovely pieces of real musical art, while other "songs" are mainly random noises and shouts.

I disagree with everything in this poll, because for almost every genre stated I can name examples that definitely earn the label "music" and examples that clearly prove that there's no music involved whatsoever :)

Yes...even with "Jazzzz". Has anyone ever tried to listen to modern free-jazz? No? That's not music...It's as little music as Stockhausen is, or hardcore techno, or 50 cents.

to make a good choice; watch and listen this
http://www.di.fm/edmguide/edmguide.html

just a brilliant guide to modern music, with soundsamples :D

by the way, I am a very forgiving person when it comes to music, and there is very little I really dislike. Every music has its moment.
Even country

well, the moment of country is when youre surrounded by rednecks in a redneck countrybar, and for the most of us, when you have two choices; or take up a beerbottle anally or listen to the music.

I feel a new poll coming up...

Wait, this is modern Western...Which means that the dog stole his truck, ran over his wife, crashed into the house and set it on fire, and they all died in a deadly conflagration. He didn't find out about it until he came home from getting laid off from the, wait for it, truck factory :D I think I have a hit.

The old joke is, if you play a Country song backwards, his truck gets returned, his wife takes him back, and his dog comes home.
