ooo, signed copy! :D The photocopying signatures is a really nice idea. And the pieces submitted on the World information page are really good. How far away are we talking about with this, or is it 'It will be ready when it's ready'? England expects.

Screenshots....theres some damn nice ones out there you may want to use, imho a designers stylisation sometimes takes away from something that already has a style of its own, the screeshots are wysiwyg.

Heros write ups.....give a nice background to avlis...so may want to use 'em as well.....they sell avlis very well.

uhm..

Can of worms this one. The screenshots contain material that is copyrighted at least to Bioware, if not to dozens of other companies.

I just had a great idea! For the artwork/illustrations in the hard cover, how about portraits of the well-known characters in Avlis or have a screenshot competition & include those? They would have to be color which would increase costs, but I'd pay the extra.

I meant to add, it could be like a year book where people could pay x amount to include their character in the PC/"Who's Who of Avlis" section.

So nothing in the forum can be included in the book? Especially if it helps pay for it? The book is going to suck.

Things in the forums can be in the book since they are the property of the people who wrote them. Actuall screen shots cannot because Bioware and Atari (I think?) control the rights to those.

But that's also a tricky thing as it might be considered a form of machanima if you use a game engine as artwork in a book. If the guys at Rooster Teeth can sell DVDs of the stuff they've done with Halo and Halo2, it might be something Orleron can do with NWN. The Red vs. Blue guys got permission from Budgie to do what they did and all it took was for the RvB guys to plug the game on the site. If screenshots are used in the book, it might only take a blurb about NWN and BioWare for Orleron to get permission from them to use it.

There's so much hassel with copyright laws. But as far as the stuff on the forums, unless people put a (c) at the end is free for anyone's use, isn't it? I mean, if you write a paper for a college class and your prof likes it and you didn't (c) it he can take it and use it as his own.

In any case, I would love to buy that book. It would be sweet.

My friends and I started playing The d6 system. It is the same system the star wars roleplaying game was based on.

It is very flexable and seems to lend itself to adaptation to anyone's game world. Maybe you would like to take a look at that. I am not sure about any legal stuff though.

That is my opinion, not nessasarily anyone else's opinon, might just be, but that would be a coincodence, and damnit, sometimes the crap I write is not even my opinion either.

I still DM/play the PnP version on a very regular basis. I think an Avlis campaign setting would be really fun! I personally think though, that it's gonna be really hard to translate the flavor of the world to people that have never played NWN.

If it ever happens though, I want a copy! :)

I love ya, man, but 2 million dollars is not enough money to make a stand alone game. :) :)

It would certainly go an awfully long way towards helping, however. :)

The main problem with the sourcebook right now is finding a self-publishing company that has the format that we want, which is exactly like the format of your basic Dragonlance or Ebberon sourcebook: glossy cover, approx 8.5x11in, etc. No one that I have found in the publish on demand business does that size in color. :(

What may have to happen (and I'm seriously considering this) is we would have to pitch the book to a game publisher to see if they would print it, and give me a small royalty for it. The upside is the publisher would be automatically guaranteed to sell about 200 books before they even put it on the store shelves. Considering the fact that only the GREATEST of non-WoTC sourcebooks sell more than 2,000 copies in their entire run, it may please a publisher to know that they could knock out 10% of that amount in a few days!

However, before I pitch this to a company, Nob and I need to finish writing and editing the thing. It's coming along.

I'd buy one! Then I'd actually use it.
