Lizards with shields!

PostAuthor: pincushionman » Sat Apr 16, 2005 6:41 pm

EDIT: nonscience has offered to host this file. He has made it available as:

Lizard_Shield_Fix.zip
You may find it by following this link.

Be sure to thank him, and enjoy!

------------------------
From April 16, 2005:
------------------------
Can't wait for dynamic races to get done!

But until then, I felt it was kinda silly that Suuhoroh the Lizardman runs around with his arm in front of him because the model won't display his shield.

Sooo...I opened up Max and gave him a shield! (pics are below). The bracer blades don't stick through the shield most of the time 'cause I rotated them back 35 degrees. So they may not look as formidable, but they are way too badass to take out entirely!

The animations don't work exactly right, but are close enough no one is going to notice.

All I did was edit the .mdl and put it in the override directory, so it shouldn't break anything and it shouldn't make a difference for anyone else on the server, kinda like the hands fix. If anyone wants to test/use this, please contact me somehow with ideas on how I can distribute it. I don't have a webhost.

IMPORTANT: This is NOT official. I am NOT part of the team working on dynamic races. And while I am willing to add shields to other static races that don't show them, I'm NOT going to do a lot of work on it, since I don't want to hijack interest in the full dynamic races. This is just an interim "fix." But if anyone wants to send me a list of the races and models that don't show shields, and their setappearance nubmers, I'd be willing to pop 'em on.

---

EDIT: Removed the other pictures to save bandwidth at photobucket.com. This is all you need to see.

That's really cool! Is this a still a static model.. just a static model with a shield? Anyway, pretty cool looking.

I can host the file, provided the Team is okay with this homemade fix.

It's the exact same thing you've been seeing in-game, it just has the node the shield attaches to on it, so if the player equips the shield, it shows up. And those blades are twisted back so they don't poke through it. It's still static in terms of body and armor, you'll have to wait for the dynamic races to be finished for that to change.

EDIT: And, of course, I'm the only one who can see it right now, since I'm the only one who has the file.

The fix is local to your machine and doesn't affect the servers in any way. Go nuts.

I definetely want that if someone can host it - it bugs the hell outta me that Shaktar's shield does not show up. If no-one can host it could you email it to me?

Why does that Lizard look like a Green Version of Red Rum?

You do have to admit that all the lizardmen players on Avlis are all charming and generally adorable....

I'll never forget that time my lizardman tried to hit it off with an elvish female PC..... *sighs with nostalgia*
