When you have only been on Avlis for a week and are angry at the world for finding Avlis 2 years after everyone else.

When at work you make the excuse to yourself that it's ok to read 1 post in this forum in between every phone call to a customer.

You rationalise reading these posts all day at work because your boss/director of company you work for takes his breaks playing America's Army on line.

You have to hold yourself back from questioning him why he doesn't play on Avlis (promting serious questions on your work load from said boss)

You actually spend time questioning yourself on whether Orleron is meant to be the supreme one mentioned in the Avlis history.

And if so, can he be worshipped by putting his name in the deity box at charcter creation.

A work collegue asks if you had a good weekend and you struggle to come up with some lie hiding the fact that you are obsessed with an online rpg.

You start to struggle to remember what it was you did before submitting your application to Avlis.

You are about to buy a new house. Your list of things to consider whist choosing a new home are:

1) It is close enough to work that your Avlis time is not going to be cut down by commuting.

2) Your are going to be able to log on Avlis using Broad Band so you can stay on longer, suffer less from lag and don't get kicked off of your connection by your pathetic ISP, and therefore won't have to come up with a new excuse IC every 2 hours (ouch I twisted my ankle on a magical root, therefore making my body translucent which is why I disappeared from view for 10 minutes)[/u]
Nothing thats worth having in this world comes easily.

When you are sat in a white padded room being stared at through a little hole in the door by people in white coats who can't work out why you are muttering to yourself "the spiders are coming, they are everywhere" and "star nods to little brownie man star".

Someone who knows you explains to them your addiction and shows them Avlis.

Weeks later those same white coats have joined you in that room muttering, "he's right the spiders, everywhere! And watch out for that fire beatle!".

This hasn't happen'd to me... yet.

You have not played on avlis all week but have put 20+ hours of work into it.

That is my opinion, not nessasarily anyone else's opinon, might just be, but that would be a coincodence, and damnit, sometimes the crap I write is not even my opinion either.

Wulgara|SaintOfTheCone: I've found that yelling "Dagath sucks" on the DM channel actually just turns you into a penguin. Hell, I've found that smarting off to Hylia does that, too. :-P

When, after playing for a week, you decide to close down all four of your UO accounts that have been active for years.

When this IS your day job...

Edit: Okay, well I don't get paid... but it's still a job... and I do work on this stuff all day...
A wise man does not dwell on his past. He learns from it, he grows from it, and then moves ahead into his future.

And some wise words from a wise man. :P

you know you're addicted to avlis when... it takes two hours to travel what would ordinarily take 15 minutes... and you keep logging in to do it....

{folks this lag is nasty]

You have a dream about your high level character being taken apart by a single lowly bandit. It keeps hitting and your character just stands there. (Must be lag) You click the quick slot for your heal pots and they've all been replaced by cure light wounds. You wake up when your character hits the death plane. Getting out of bed you're half way to your computer to log back in before you lose your gear to some looter, then you realize where you are. Turning around you slip back into bed before your wife asks any questions.

You start cross-referencing threads and writing posts relevant to both threads . . .

. . . in your head . . .

. . . while taking a walk . . .

. . . to get away from the Avlis boards . . .

EDIT: Woot! 100 posts!

When you can say been there done that and you haven't been here for two months yet...

When your character's background grow more in one day at work than the report you were supposed to be working on...

When your office mates think you are a looney when you crack up while creating a powerpoint presentation (and reading R&R)

Question:

Is it still an addiction when it is your life?
