Few heroes can cause as much... ahem... debate. I seem to recall there being some argument amongst the D&D writers about where he lived. Ravenloft trying to poach him as I recall.

Gotta love it when a character's so cool that someone else tries to steal him out of your setting :D

Lord Soth came from Krynn (Dragonlance) before being sucked into the Demiplane of Ravenloft.

The interesting bit that I recall though, was Weiss and Hickman being pissed and continuing to write as though Ravenloft never stole him. Second hand info though, can't stand the Dragonlace books so haven't read far enough into the timeline to know.

How can anyone pick another from that list other than Lord Soth?

Here is a little sample for those who have no idea who the fallen Paladin, the knight of the Black Rose and leader of the 13 death knights was.

DAMN YOU !?!?!?

I was going to say that...

Though honestly it depends weither Elric had Stormbringer or not... if he did, yes Lord Soth would be tough. But ultimately... would lose. *shrug* unless you just know nothing about the writings of Micheal Moorcock. On the other hand, without her? While Elric is a formidable opponent. Lord Soth would descimate him.

But since this is fictional ill have to vote for Drizzt Do'Urden.

Caramon Majere would be my next pick.

probably late but...

PostAuthor: chupacabra » Fri Jun 04, 2004 6:43 pm

This post comes weeks too late, obviously... but real quickly:

Two different ways to look at the poll:

1 Greatest WARRIOR? -- or --
2 Who would win in a fight?

Conan, is the easy answer to number 1... I mean, if you've read the Howard books... there is a scene I remember where Conan is fighting an entire army, as his own army had been slaughtered already, and they cannot bring him down. Hours go by, and he just keeps slaying more and more warriors. Eventually they have to bring in the standard counter-- for Conan, its magic. A wizard is brought in, who casts a quick spell, and thats it for Conan, he gets captured.

Number 2 would probably be Elric... again, for those who have read all the books (yes I've read dragonlance, and the Drizz't books too, etc etc ad nauseum), this is a hero who in Book 6 (Stormbringer) actually goes one on one with a GOD. Xiombarg, Lord of Chaos and God of many planes of existence, is defeated in melee combat by Elric. Not to mention the whole ring of kings thing, where he can call on All of the spirit gods, or his sword which can fight on its own if he commands it to, flying around and sucking out peoples souls on a whim... OR his being the most masteful sorceror on the planet... yes, Elric would be unstoppable, but much of his power is due to his magic, his ring, his sword... and not his skill as a warrior.

I made the mistake of allowing 'Elric' to appear as an NPC in an extra-dimensional watering hole once, in a campaign I was running. One of the party members decided he HAD to have Stormbringer as his own, so you can guess what happened...

We had to waste 45 minutes while he rolled up a new character.

Just my 2 pence.

Lord soth rox you all, he's the most powerful deathknight in dragonlance and would have killed one of the main heros if the stupid little kender hadnt gone back in time and changed it, and he commands a legion of skeletial knights who's touch is death and banshee's whos screech is death, and he's a walking machine of death and he can blow dragons out of the sky by just saying "die". thats all it takes, you take every fighter on that list vs soth, and he just goes...*point* "die" *point* "die" *point* "die" *point* "die" *point* "die" *point* "die"

In short, LORD Soth is the -best-
Its not a reatreat, its taking the offensive in the opposite direction.

good to know...

PostAuthor: chupacabra » Fri Jun 04, 2004 8:18 pm

Good to know that even in a discussion as far removed from technical / internet type issues as this one, I can still count on hearing some "ROXORS YOUR SOXORS" type comments.... rofl

So, in response,

Conan is uber L33T, and his sword is bigger than Soth's sword, so Nyahh nyahh nya nyahh nyahh... errr., I mean, I disagree with your assessment, good chap.

And what exactly does ROXORS mean anyway? Rocks? So, Lord Soth is a musician?

PS looking for the obligatory "All your bases R belong to Us" post but couldn't find it.... (YET)
