Player Corpses! (Please Read)

PostAuthor: Grunt » Sun Apr 10, 2016 6:20 pm

Hey everyone, this is a plea from a fellow player: me.
If you come across a player corpse while on an adventure, please do not move it unless:

a) The player is online and can meet you for their stuff.
or
b) You're prepared to keep the stuff in a chest or on your character until said player shows up.

It might be IC to grab the body and lug it back to Dave's Respawn Depot, but it's not good. Here's why.

When Vor Tarson the Pants Wearing Fighter from the tropics of Jechran died in the beetle cave of doom, he left a body behind. It had all of Vor's worldly possessions, including the +1 pants of beetle fighting he had saved up for, and bought, with every coin he had. Poor Vor couldn't make it back to his body and logged off.

Behind the scenes... Vor's body inventory was cataloged and put into a table in the database at the same time as Vor's death was logged in order to be laughed about at the next Dagath Hall of Shame list publication. If the server crashes, or is reset, Vor's contents will spill into his inventory magically from the sky.

HOWEVER: If you loot everything, including the body container, and then drop it elsewhere...as you loot it, those rows are removed from the database. So, if the server crashes or is reset after you drop the body elsewhere... Vor's stuff is gone forever, requiring a restore of a previous character save, if they have one. It's best to leave the body be when you find it, so please do!

Thanks,
-Grunt

Aha!

An idea for a new character for the Lowbie Weekend - Vor Tarson of Jechran

Seriously, it is a fair point
Life is never as bad as you think it is, although that doesn't help at the time.
