Can display chests be added to player housing

PostAuthor: Gorgon » Tue Sep 30, 2014 3:09 pm

This is mostly directed at Hamlet and Micah as a housing rule confirmation (or clarification if it is no longer true). Also to have them add it to the wiki, if it still applies (it is in the forum version here [2.6]: http://www.avlis.org/viewtopic.php?p=438746, which also says the wiki now overrules it).

The question is the topic subject. Can display chests be added to player housing (either as a new submission or update)?

The original rule about it was made in 2009 here: http://www.avlis.org/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=109065 as part of the banning of any old style chests from being added to housing (or Avlis for that matter). I'm familiar with the reasons behind it, even if I did a brain fart and reported the exploit again recently (I forget so much stuff these days, it scares me X:| ).

I've assumed the answer is no since that time, but recent discussions with people here, and in IRC, have shown that either many others have no idea about them not being allowed, or else the rule isn't enforced now. AFAIK the exploit problems are still as bad as they were, as well as the lag issues with old style chests. I've also asked in IRC about this a few times, and Hamlet and PsiOmega both answered with very strong "NO" replies.

Assuming they aren't allowed, a quick edit of [2.6] in http://wiki.avlis.org/Player_Housing is needed, to say they are not allowed until the ep version is working (and the housing spreadsheet updated the same way). Many people spend quite a bit of time designing areas around what they intend to display, so they would want to know if they can't use those display cases.

If they are allowed again, I have a submission I've been neglecting for a while... :jump:

They aren't. Wiki article edited. Related announcement linked. Thank you. :-)
