Avlis policy on: Muling

PostAuthor: TripleAught » Sat Jul 28, 2012 2:48 am

Muling : Is intentionally passing an item/items/gold between one or more of your PCs.

This includes :
*Straight trading between your PCs (logging in one, dropping things and logging in with another PC and picking them up)
*Shared chests or PH/ guild chests (where two or more pcs have access to one chest)
*Third party muling (where you hand off gear/gold to a third party, to get it back to a different PC)

Third party muling can be done through:
* Your own P-merchant
* P-merchants of guilds/groups your characters belong to
* Selling an item to an unrelated P-Merchant/biomerchant then immediately purchasing with your alt.
* Using another PC to pass items.

Crafting and Muling
Your character should not possess an item where an alt was involved in the production of that item.
Your character should never possess an item with the name of an alt character on it.

Above all, please use Rule 0 , and ask a DM if you are unsure.

The ruling about purchasing from player-owned P-Merchants is still valid. (http://www.avlis.org/viewtopic.php?t=92443)

The purpose for the muling rule is not to disrupt the economy but to document the Avlis team's position that if such systems are being used intentionally to break rules, we will take action.

The safest course of action is still to be conservative and make sure you aren't buying or selling through a P-Merchant with the intention of benefiting an alternate character.

There seems to be some confusion around two intersecting rules that have to do with P-Merchants. Let me try to explain the team's position.

The muling rule is documented so that we can ban you.

Go ahead and read that sentence again please.

I do not want the team constantly dealing with P-Merchant rules enforcement. Either course of action -- allowing alts to purchase from P-Merchants or disallowing it -- there are a slew of questions from one side or another. The reason that we have decided to go with allowing continued transactions is to save the DM team from needing police every instance of commerce that a player might do.

But you cannot hide behind the ruling of open P-merchant commerce. When we see patterns of behavior, or suspect that someone is abusing the system, we will use this documented rule on muling to take action. And you will not like the actions we take.

I expect our players to use their judgement. If you would feel more comfortable not going to your P-merchants, then don't. If you find yourself planning something with one character and thinking of how to get your other character involved, stop. If you just want to buy healing kits and drop off iron ore, you're going to be fine (unless you start to abuse it).
