You MAY be griefing if..

PostAuthor: Orleron » Wed Jul 30, 2003 3:53 am

* You participate in some form of faction war (guild or other) and kill people who are not participating in the war
* You kill an opposing faction player, and then kill them again when they retrieve their corpse and have only 5 hitpoints.
* You do the above mentioned multiple times to the same person.
* You kill someone in the faction war without giving any indication of which side you are on before killing them. A small battlecry would suffice. But simply walking up and killing without warning is borderline.
* You repeatedly loot the same player after killing them.
* You loot dry any player who is not participating in the faction war.
* You say that any of the above mentioned cases do not apply to you because you are an "evil character". That's fucking bullshit.

The above things are signs that you MAY be griefing. These are the most common things that people do to get reported to the DM's. These are also the quickest ways to get put on the watch list, which means you will never be able to play a custom character.

Getting put on the watchlist for one of these things and then breaking some other rule, no matter how small, will get you INSTA-banned.

Conflict is to add flavor to Avlis. We will be getting an entire war SERVER someday. It is important to keep IC conflict in its place and not use it as an excuse to grief. I have no qualms about cleaning up the trash players from my server, i.e. kicking them out because I don't think they fit the tone and feel of Avlis.

So be warned.

I like it. Good stuff.

Edit: Wait... so if you're in the War, and kill someone else on the enemy side of the ar... then you CAN totally loot them dry?

Yikes... I'm glad my char has no desire to get involved with the war.

This one is quite interesting. Just for clarification does this post only apply to the war or to everyone on Avlis? The post title was a bit ambiguous, and I want to be 100% sure.
It is the mark of an educated mind to be able to entertain a thought without accepting it.

Would this then have mchek be on a different server than tnanshi, and the war be on an entirely different server? Or will the war just be a server surrounded the wilderness, (similar to how LeOr is surrounded by the wilderness)?

I'm pretty sure he's refering to the Kurathene Empire here, not the M'chek/T'Nanshi warzone

Neither. The Kurathene Empire will be a war server, but much more advanced than the current warzone which is only really a test for the Kurathene code.

Looting dry is legal on Avlis, but frowned upon. First of all, this has been discussed to death, so I won't have it here. Bottom line is that if you loot dry (in the war or not) and don't give a person a chance to recover their items, you are not looked on highly. Do it enough times and you will catch the DM's attention. Whenever you have a DM's attention like that, it's always bad because eventually you may slip up and break a rule, which will give us an excuse to ban you.

Remember folks, all it takes is two or three reports about you from other players to put you on the watchlist. We generally don't like the people who are on the watchlist and are most of the time just waiting for a reason to ban them because they've done something that is not in line with the kind of person that we want playing on our servers. This is true of everybody. Even former roleplayers of the month.

Also, guys, keep things in perspective. Look at that title of the post "You may be griefing if..."

This means that these are guidelines, not hardcoded rules. So if you kill someone in the warzone you think is a threat or an enemy, that doesn't mean you get on the watch list.

Ultimately, we're looking for a pattern of behavior and a series of reports from multiple people. Does this make sense to you?

You are PROBABLY not griefing if:

PostAuthor: Orleron » Thu Sep 15, 2005 3:23 pm

You are PROBABLY not griefing if:

* You give some form of emote or warning to someone before killing them

* You send a tell to the person afterwards explaining what your IC motivation for killing them was, and that motivation is something other than "Cuz I b 3v1L". Remember common sense is a rule.

* You kill someone who taunts you in some way, be it physically or verbally, AND your actions for killing them are in line with what your character would do to anyone regardless of NWN level (but not social or guild status level).

* You kill someone and then withdraw from the area so they can get their stuff back.

Remember, OOC anger is not equal to grief. People get angry. Griefing is more specific than that because it makes you angry, does harm to your character, AND most importantly it has no reasonable in-game IC explanation.

One more thing:

There is kind of a conflict in our rules. We tell you to treat everyone the same in terms of CvC, regardless of level, but then we tell you to give newbies some slack.

I am aware of this conflict, but I feel it is necessary. All of these griefing rules apply to newbies alike, but in reality you should seriously check if someone is a noob before greasing them. Too many noobies have gone by the wayside because one of our veteran players decided to crunch them, and probably with good reason. But still..... The point is to try to keep players and get new players, so please remember to take it easy on newbies for CvC AND looting.

Just wondering, where does an assassin's Death Attack fit into this? If an emote is made, etc, and the target clicks to attack prior to the assassin attacking, then the death attack is not made.

thanks in advance.

These are not requirements. You do not HAVE to emote before attacking, so long as you at least make an effort to do other things.... such as explaining in tells why you did what you did. Assassins are not affected by this at all. It is possible to be a perfectly lethal assassin w/o griefing.
