Funny thing about owning a castle... other people seem to want to take it from you. A castle doesn't last very long in the hands of someone who can't defend it.

Hmm I would suggest that being raised/ressurected lower the penalty for dying yes, it only makes sense to me! But it should not negate it completely, somewhere halfway between. Its a bit silly not to have the ressurection give some benefit. RP reasons to play a cleric are nice but theres some for every class. Class benefits shouldnt be based on RP abilities...

The benefit is that you don't have to run back to your body. That can save you a lot of time... plus, what if you die all the way down in the Underdark.... you'd have to run all through the dungeon naked! But with a RD or Res, you can just poof right back to your body.

I'd say that's a pretty decent advantage.

Plus, look at the regular 3rd Ed rules... RD and Res give you a penalty.

Per the 3rd edition rules they give you a benefit... xp loss instead of permanant death :) I think there should be a similar bonus in Avlis, but thats just me... running back part is nice and all but quite frankly id expect it to be more than teleportation. A powerful servant of god is bringing you back to life. Thats something.

Edit: level loss vs perma death with no rez would seem fine to me, I wasnt arguing the steepness of the penalties, just that cleric rez should have some real benefit. I totally fail to see why a DM would not want that... Since i doubt Avlis plans to go the perma death route, Something like half xp loss seems best to me...

Also, another point for lesser exp loss - look at true res in 3d. NO exp loss. Granted its a 9th level spell, but call res the equivalent...
