It looks very nice. I'd definately use it :D

Now... the next evolutionary step would be to make it skinnable

Isn't logging your session like running around in RL (or IG) with a quill and pen knowing really fast shorthand, and writing down everything anyone says?
This seems odd to me.....but then again, I am odd too.

Wow, I had no idea people were using it. I use it myself, and I've even added a couple of little features, but I didn't really think others were.

Ok, ok, I'll make some changes and upload the latest version. But I've discovered that I simply don't have the time to do the super-logging and parsing stuff that I wanted to do.

At least not until my kitchen remodel is done.

And I get a better job.

And my kids grow up a bit.

And I get bored with Avlis.

Issues:

1) When adding a large number of servers, the list scrolls across. Would make a lot more sense if it scrolled down instead.

2) Logging. It seems that if you crash out then it is not storing the log info. Not sure exactly what is causing this as it seems hard to reproduce, but I have ost a fair bit of log info because of it.

Other than those two things, it is a great little piece of software.

I have been using this for about three months now. I am yet to find a problem with it. It is great not to have to go through gamespy.

you just need to add -dmc to the extra switches field when setting up the connection.

for #1 I just stretched the program window to be longer, and no more scrolling list. Since the list isn't very long, this works for me.

for #2 I noticed the same thing, but now i run a parseing program (in beta but hopefully soon to be released) and it catches everything. Havent' lost anything since then, and as a Wemic i crash a lot when going between servers.

but this is a great program, got rid of the batch files i was running so now only one icon on desktop instead of 6 or 7.

Yeah, it has something to do with the way that NWN exits. The best options is to use an external logger as suggested. Anyone want to give up some suggestions? To help with external loggers I've added a new feature to launch other apps before NWN starts. So if you've got a logger that does something before and after, you can split it up and run both halves straight from ASK. Neat huh?

I also added a checkbox right above the launch button for choosing full screen before you launch. For a while I was luanching the game and immediately hitting alt-enter. Mainly cause I was too lazy to edit the INI files.

New version is in the same place as the old:
http://avlis.betaspace.net/ASKInstall.zip

Please post bugs and suggestions.

Code: Select all
Tip of the day:
You can double-click any server in the list to launch it, or you can hit the "Enter" key to launch into the default (last used) server.

I've been running this (poor me as an Alpha tester) and it rocks! seprates the tells and chats so you can easily follow. I have a hard time reading what is said sometimes, especially in classes, so this lets me go back and read at my leisure.

and my favorite, tracks kills and damage, so you can see what you've done!! or whats been done to you :D

Everytime this thing gets bumped I think to myself "Self, you really should add some of those features you kept thinking about" then I reply to myself "now self, you know you should fix the bugs first". Then I get in an argument with myself about wether the bugs are really that big of a deal and if anyone cares about new features

Then my wife comes along and asks me why I've been sitting in a dark room mumbling to myself for an hour. This is where I quietly step out and seek psychiatric help.

Epik, I want you to somehow attach that cool little program you have to it.. .you know the one that tells you what you killed and how much xp you got and all of your conversations. That would be the greatest improvement to ASK I think. :P

already been done, just add it to your "run this command after NWN exits" option in ASK.

Request:

Can you add to the executable the ability to select which drive your game is installed on?

My "C" drive is not large enough for Windows XP and NWN with all the patches and haks that I use. Therefore, my NWN directory is located on another harddrive with the letter "G" for "game".

Currently ASK is supposed to look into the registry and find out where NWN was installed to that way. If that's not happening, let me know. If you moved the game after you installed it, then that would break it and I can let you know how to fix it.

Could someone add the download link to an appropriate place on the downloads page? (Or host it with all other Avlis files to ensure its longer term accessability)

Um, no. But I'd be happy to hand the source to anyone that would like to try.

Seriously, don't take me wrong, Linux is great and all. I've got a SUSE install around here somewhere that I play with now and then, but it's not exactly mainstream. I'd rather spend the time on new features for the Windows version. Sorry.
