Spell Resistance

Josh-

I looked this up in the conversion guide from 2nd ed to 3rd ed. It seems that my SR should be 13 and Emily's should be 15. The formula is Old Magic Resistance divided by 5 and the result added to 11. Also the SR check is a caster level check (d20 + caster level) must equal or beat SR for spell to work. This makes sense assuming a 2nd ed 50% magic resistance, you would get the following:

50%/5 = 10
10+11= 21 New SR

Assuming a 10th level caster caster check succeeds on d20 roll of 11 or higher.
(d20 +10)> 21 this would succeed only half the time.

Assuming 10th level caster for my SR 13
(d20 + 10) >13 succeeds on 3-20 or 90% of the time.

Assuming 10th level caster for Emily's SR 15
(d20 + 10) > 15 succeeds on 5-20 or 80% of the time.

I would also propose a house rule that a caster check roll of 1 always fails as the DMs Guide likens SR to a magical AC. Plus this would always allow a chance for magic resistance to work. For example if we were facing a 12th level caster, I could never be resistant because even a roll of 1 would match my SR. But even if a 1 is always a miss it reduces my resistance to 5%.

What do you think?

Sounds good.

The person casting at you always fails automatically on a 1 and succeeds automatically on a 20.

I think that's fair because there should always be some chance for resistance.
