Are all musical instruments classified as tiny?

PostAuthor: bolo » Wed Sep 20, 2017 5:50 pm

Hi folks, hopefully, this isn't one of those FOIG things. But my latest character idea was a half-ogre bard/ other things. But I didn't realise that so far, the musical instruments I've seen have all been of the size " tiny", and thus, not able to be wielded by a large model. Woops!
I suppose I could always rp him as beating on his shield like a drum or something

Of the instruments my bard character has:

Violin bow, item type fashion accessory, size tiny
Guitar, item type fashion accessory, size tiny
Two kinds of harps, item type fashion accessory, size tiny
Tambourine, item type fashion accessory, size tiny

Violin, item type torch, comes in male and female variants for some reason

So aside from the violin, because its held in the off-hand, these instruments are under the fashion accessory item type, and because of that they're tiny.

If anybody else has some more variety, feel free to pipe in.

I'd forgotten about the male/female violin types. That's something. I guess it could make some ic sense.Musical instruments so delicate a huge person with big fingers might not be able to strum a regular sized lute for instance. I could play off that I spose. This guy's not really a performer anyway.. Ok then.

Sephira sorta covered why they are tiny, but it has nothing to do with which hand equips them. It is because of the baseitem.2da size of "Fashion Accessory*" being "Tiny" and "Torch" being "Small". The torch items are offhand (same as shields) by another setting in that 2da. I added a list of all equippable items and their sizes below, but those 2 are the only ones with useful instrument appearance models AFAIK (or anything else for misc equippable stuff... besides BioWare's single Moon-on-a-Stick one and the fun club fishes. :P ).

If you want bigger than tiny, it needs to be a torch appearance and offhand, unless we get a CoPaP hak update

*edits* I do see a torch horn in the appearances for it, as another small equippable instrument (quick toolset screengrab).

You can check all of the ones available in Avlis/CoPaP by loading up a mod with our haks attached in the toolset (AKA a Player Housing one). Anything you can ~see~ IG is in player hak/2da/tlk files, not server-side, so not a mystery (the server doesn't send you models or textures, so you already have them). I made up one long ago (probably older housing scripts in it), which you can use instead of making your own (clicky here for it). Nothing in it (besides those housing scripts), but it has the haks in order. Load it up in the toolset, and mess with item appearances all you like, to see what is possible.

All equippable item sizes from our copap2da.hak baseitems.2da - (tlk numbered names and sizes replaced with the IG ones).

Personally I think you should be able to wield an IG piano. :+) Maybe a large taiko drum. But that's just me. Probably a piano would cause too much damage.
