Art prompts and games (possibly not safe for work)

Okay, so between the baby and the job I don't have a lot of large blocks of time right now to play, but I have small enough blocks to do little sketches. And on reflection, I do like the idea of a slightly more free form art thread (albeit not really of converting art of the week into that). Best way to improve is to do, and all that. Anyway, a space for people to post or request prompts, and post their lovely results. Free form. Have fun.

I am trying to get better at clothes and clothes design. Find me pictures of outfits (especially including shoes) and I will try to draw avlis characters of my choice wearing them.

Fern dress and leaf shoes! The former inspired by Tulip's little green dress.

All of the costuming on Reign is stunning, actually.

I had thought to post something like this but between holidays/illness/other RL stuff I kind of forgot about it. I like the idea of a freeform thread a lot! It may still be cool to revive Art of the Week at some point too.

The belt is too low and wide, but the diaphanous aspects were fun and I like how busy it is without being distracting

Here... sorry no shoes.
Please don't draw Ronan in it

I appreciate your ability to anticipate, Ronan. That said, I've tried to draw Ronan so many times and it's never worked out, so I think you're safe!

I just wanted to slide on in here for a moment and bring up some free paint/illustration programs.

I just discovered this one - https://medibangpaint.com/en/ It seems like it's built on FireAlpaca (which I think is open source possibly?) except it has some kind of cloud functions, mobile apps for drawing on your android or iPad tablets, and some cool looking templates and other things for drawing comics. I was drawn to it for that reason.

Fire Alpaca (http://firealpaca.com/en) was what I really started with when I got myself a drawing tablet. I still use it but I started using Paint Tool SAI more. It's got a lot of nice features for the price of "free". I like the reference window a lot.

GIMP (https://www.gimp.org/) - I've personally only ever used GIMP for photo editing as a photoshop alternative but it's good to have around.

Inkscape (https://inkscape.org/en/) - Comparable to Adobe Illustrator I think? A free program for making vector illustrations. I haven't messed with this one much yet either, but I plan to try it out if I ever get silly enough to try and make logos.

Adding to the above, I use Krita:
https://krita.org/en/

The brushes in it are not bad, but I downloaded an artist's pack and would recommend doing that. I like that this program has a sort of non digital feel but still syncs easily with photoshop.

The Wisdom of Moonlight

Moonlight- silent as the winds; voice of sweet caresses or howl of fiends.
Moonlit clouds chase 'cross the sky; lovers’ lips are dripping lies.
Sunlight in pale reflection, easier to give misdirection.
Raindrops fall like strings of diamonds, falling to the call of sirens.
Love lives in moonlight, as does deceit; cold treachery to passion’s heat.
Lock the doors 'gainst night's thieves; open windows- lovers please.
Secrets kept and secrets given, exchanges made when moon has risen.
Silver light so ancient, old; all the stories never told.

I need another one pretty please.

I have a prompt. I'm working on another Avlis sourcebook that will be all about the various kinds of magic and magic users. I'd love pictures of these different kinds of magic users doing various things, or just scenery of where they might live and adventure.

Mages - you know 'em well! They have their nine orders and their Visimontium!

Saemilists - mystical rune casters that draw on the Prime Nature, not the vortices. They are more "hands on" with the fisticuffs, but augmented with their runes. Think the Mortal Instruments series and its Shadow Hunters.

Psions - you know these well too! They like hanging out with monks in monasteries and draw their power from the Mind Wind.

Pathomancers - casters that channel their emotions to harness the power of the Transient River for magic, not the vortices. The Transient River flows through the transient planes: Shadow, Ethereal, and Astral, so there are Shadow, Light, and Silver pathomancers accordingly. They wield their spells differently than all the others. Think the magicians in Night Watch from Sergei Lukyanenko. Since their orders originate in Khanjar Kuro, they too have a monastic feel as well, but an elemental one, not like the monks of Negaria.

That sounds slightly less like a prompt and more like a paid gig.

Might have a snow day here Thursday...maybe I'll take a stab at an art prompt if anyone's got one? I need something to get myself out of this depressive funk.

As for mages, I never finished it and it's not really an action shot but I started drawing this dude a few months ago. There was eventually supposed to be fire. Ah well!

Xalia maybe you could draw a werewolf or vampire - those would be cheery!

Or maybe you could draw what Spike would look like as an Avlis character.

Oh Xaila, with your computer coloring, have I got a prompt for you: PALETTE CHALLENGE. (Actually, finding these was one of the things that made me want to start this thread.)

https://uk.pinterest.com/pin/293719206924945610/

Do a character in one of the limited palettes in the prompt! (this is one I'd love to try when I've got the kind of time where I could sit down for a long computer art session, but until then, fun for others!)

Might be fun to do little poems for avlis characters (without names of course) and see if people can guess who they're about?

Thanks for the shoes.
