Generations Revisited

PostAuthor: Gorgon » Tue May 17, 2016 12:18 am

Some of you know about the Generation wiki page (and all the categories for users to add themselves to), which was based on the original discussion here: Good noobie influx. A lot of time has passed since that 10th generation, so I'd like to add more after it, but a) my memory sucks, and b) it is easier to get others here to do the research stuff, so I need your input on what generations to add. :P

They need a way to define them (like the previous ones), and a start/end date (doesn't have to be exact). So what new generations have there been in the last decade? Any fun memories/trivia are always welcome here, and may even be worth adding to the page itself.

Anyone here can make changes to most wiki pages, so don't be afraid to try. I just prefer to get all the facts sorted out here before making a bunch of edits there to correct and update things (previewing edits is always better than making dozens of saved changes until you get it right too, though I always miss something  ).

Also, feel free to add your user links to whatever generation category* you belong to there. Check the other user pages in them for how, but you really only need to add:
Code: Select all
[[Category:Fifth_Generation]]
somewhere at the bottom, and use the correct generation category name (I'm 5th, so I used that in the example).

* The 1st, 4th and 10th generation categories are still empty (therefore not created), but you can still use Category:First_Generation, Category:Fourth_Generation and Category:Tenth_Generation for your pages. I (or someone else) will add the categories once there is at least one user in them.

I guess I'm Sixth Gen. My little brother, KaiRal on here, introduced me to the game after the first BioWed.

Nineth here too, but I'm not sure why it really matters, I've made a whole load of characters since then that would fit into the other generations.

This game was a birthday present. I joined the forums about the same time as I joined Avlis. June 2005.

I had spent some time watching over my husband's shoulder who got introduced through co-workers as he played.

Guess I fall somewhere between the 8th and 9th?

I guess I'm 4th generation since I came in here when the mythos link was being broken.

When the chests no longer dropped loot according to BioWare's tables, and used Avlis' own loot script and tables instead, powerful items were becoming increasingly difficult to find. While the Third Generation could easily get their hands on multiple +3 items, this was difficult for the 4th.

The end of this generation was September, 2003. Several loot nerfs were made at the time, and hoards of +1 items were no longer being dropped, making it much more difficult for PCs to obtain millions of gold easily.

This is pretty accurate, as I've ever only gotten a single +3 item and never had much gold to speak of.

I think the first player character I ever spoke to was Arena Helerin in Elysia.

Re: listing users who belong to categories

Since adding a user to one of the categories requires editing their user page, you guys will have to do that yourself. It is a voluntary thing after all, and some might not want to be added.

Also, it is bad form to mess with someone's user page without permission, unless they are breaking stuff (or have inappropriate spam/content), like forgetting to comment out category links on test pages.

I'm all of a month late for the 4th gen, though 5th does make sense per the description. I never got any of the 4th perks, so I'll just be like a kid with fingers raise and saying "4 and this many"!

(I know that is backwards, but kid brain at work here. )

Generations are about the player, not the PCs, though many define them by the original PC played. If we went by PC creation, then in NH4's case, he'd be in almost every generation with multiple entries. :P

Don't add PCs to the categories, only user pages. If you want people to know your PC(s) list/link them on your user page (or subpage or whatever. It is your user space, so set it up how you like).

If I just go by playing, I'd have to say second generation, though I have no idea what character I played back then. Avlis was still in very early stages. There was only Mikona and the sewers, and there were npcs all over the place in the inns, even on the road outside Mikona . I remember a group of us going out and killing certain monsters because their dropped weapons were worth a small fortune. This was way before the loot system.
Currently on Eastern Time - 5 GMT.
Available play times= any time ! Way too much time on my hands.
