Save DCs of artificed scrolls

PostAuthor: Seka » Tue Feb 09, 2016 1:16 am

There's a lot of info on the wiki about scribing scrolls but I couldn't find anything about save DCs for spells that have them. Vanilla NWN was 13 + innate spell level (I think) - is it the same for artificed scrolls? Or is that FOIG?

Save DC on an artificed scroll will match the scriber's DC for the same spell at the time of creation of the scroll. Some exceptions may apply.

Avlis has all sorts of things that help there too (AMS, things used in wands etc. ). For artificed stuff, you'll see the DC of the scroll when you use the scroll viewer to examine it, or stick it in an EP-chest/merchant, and wands show it in the description. Sadly any other AMS stuff doesn't go into artificed items normally (People would make a fortune selling Tranny Blackstaff and Mord's Sword), but you do get the improved CL and DC from them when making artificed wands and scrolls at least.

Right, that's the typical save DC for a spell that you cast from your spellbook. Scrolls (in Vanilla NWN) used a different save DC calculation. I just found it:

NWN Wiki Scroll wrote:One drawback of using scrolls is that the difficulty class for saving throws is no longer tied to the caster's abilities. Instead, it is fixed at 13 plus the spell's innate level.

But if it's set to match the scriber's DC for artificed scrolls, like Ronan says, then that's a whole different story. ;)

Avlis does not use vanilla nwn scroll code.
