Heads for Character Creation

Hi Everyone,

A Christmas present to Avlis from NWDuneAuron and myself: I think we've unlocked the power of the new heads for character creation. (Dune did the hak work and I wrote a script to create a ton blank files needed to make everything work).

What this does: download the file below, unzip. COPY YOUR OVERRIDE TO SOMETHING ELSE! Then drop all of the files in the download into your Override. Go, and enjoy hundreds of new heads-- there are lots of blank ones, with... just necks... that appear, but click through and look around, there are really a ton, just very interspersed. Once your character has been created and you're in game, quit, and rename the current override to override_with_heads; rename your COPY you made above back to override, and get in game and enjoy the heads. Whenever you want to make a new character, swap your override folders and then swap back to actually play. Capeesh?

I'm not 100% this works, and I'm open to the experts telling me that it's completely wrong, etc. etc. But it seems from my testing that a lot of new heads-- beyond the CEP2 ones even-- are available, so hey, may as well try! Enjoy, Avlis!

I wasn't able to get it unzipped :( But I will try again with other programs and see if I can get them.

If you notice any that are missing, please post the race, gender and phenotype here. It's entirely possible I goofed somewhere and missed a gap.

First test of it (besides noticing all the extra hands) was on human females. You have 2 plt files instead of mdl ones as filler that need to be fixed, though one doesn't break anything. The 2 are:
pfh0_head142.mdl missing, but it is in the bioware files, so it still lets the models after it show.
pfh0_head175.mdl missing, so the 12 after it don't work.

I'll run through the rest later and see what I come up with. Thanks for putting this together.

*edits* You also have pfh0_head140.mdl as a null one, but it is a valid Bioware head. Not sure if this will remove it as an option or not, but changing it to the right version is probably a good idea.

I've fixed the first problems that Gorgon has pointed out; apparently 12 more human female heads are available. Filesize is also smaller because I took out all the unnecessary hands. Hurray! Link on top edited.

Hey! Sorry for the thread necromancy here, I've been too shy to ask, but I just spent a couple hours troubleshooting and can't figure it out.

This is a pretty awesome thing you've made, and I love it to death, but it seems that when I remove the overrides, any characters made with a head you can only get using the override will become headless!

I've just kept the heads in my folder to avoid this, but since not everyone has these files, this isn't really a good solution unless these became CoPaP standard (I would like this very much).

I ask because we now have a lovely new character running about Arkaz who has to wear a hood all the time to disguise the fact that most of our players cannot see her head!

Are we doing something wrong? Can we test this some more and figure out how to get it working? I'd love to use some of these!

Is Arkaz using the COPAP haks that were implemented a few months ago, or still using the old CEP 1.53? If the answer is "CEP 1.53", then you have the reason.

Yeah, the heads should be the same files in the hak proper. The only reason the override is needed is because the game doesn't load haks on character creation. Once you're in game the files are the same as what's in the hak. Like grunt says it sounds like conflicting haks between worlds.

Good to hear. I'm fairly certain that your headless character will actually work, and have the right head, after they update the haks, so all should be well. Cheers!

Just to confirm this, I did a comparison of the override and the copapheadhand.hak, and there are no extra heads besides the dummy (headless filler) ones required for it to work properly.

Arkaz hasn't updated? Wow. All the fun new stuff they are missing :P

Redundancy is good, so...
I've rehosted the file as head_files_all.7z. It is the original version linked up top, repacked without the __MACOSX folder, .DS_Store and New Text Document.txt files. 7-Zip compresses it down to less than 13 megs, but it is the same as the original 35 meg zip.
