NWN glitching on GTX 1070/1080

Just upgraded to a new display card, a Geforce 1070 variant, and apparently it doesn't like NWN. Cloaks and robes turn invisible and armors turn into strange graphical stretches that run across the screen.

Seems I'm not the only one with the problem according to this thread: https://forums.geforce.com/default/topi ... /?offset=4

Anyone got this and managed to solve it?

Not specific to your situation, but do you run NWN in a window or fullscreen? Windowed mode fixes a lot of the graphical issues on newer hardware.

Tried both, unfortunately didn't help. Any ingame graphics options didn't do anything either.

I had loads of silliness when I ran NWN in 1080 screen size but everything normal in 720 screen size.

edit: nevermind, reso change doesn't do anything apparently.

Did you try other video driver versions?

*Blizzow casts Raise Thread*

The most recent Nvidia updates (388.00 and 387.92) did a number on NWN, and I've heard that a couple of other people have had similar issues.
Symptoms include cloaks and torsos disappearing, intermittent crashes to desktop, and main menu tomfoolery.
Rolled back my drivers to v385.69 (21 Sep 2017), and viola! Works like a charm.

I'm running Win7 64 with a GTX 980 TI

Hope this helps someone!

One of the "couple of other people" Blizzow mentioned. I can confirm the following:

Win10 64
GTX 560 Ti, driver v388
Windowed mode in 1600x900

  • Experiencing invisible cloaks and torsos that sometimes disappear on server transitions
  • Intermittent crashes to desktop, often when I turn the camera
  • No main menu strangeness... yet
  • I've always had the "graphical stretch" in certain select areas but never tied to armor and haven't yet seen it expand any worse than normal

My guess is that whatever graphical tricks NWN used isn't being fully supported anymore on nVidia's drivers.

I got a case of vanishing cloaks and wings too. Torsos has only happened if someone was on horseback. Usually the wings and cloak load in after a few area changes. Haven't figured out any fix yet besides a driver rollback which I don't consider a good long term solution since I play more than NWN.

Accidentally fixed another problem during an attempt to troubleshoot it apparently being caused by punk buster cheat detection software going rogue after the first bout of big windows updates this year. May want to uninstall that if it is somehow on your system and you've been experiencing odd freezing moments.

So, also on a 1080 here. 369 drivers.

Nwn runs fine, no tearing or graphical issues. Even shiny water seems to work.

My problem is i have no mouse in full screen, and I can't get windowed mode to display a useful size. I have it on a 4k display. If i set native resolution in nwn and full screen I see the top left 1/4 of the screen. alt-enter to windowed and it's like 1080p sized on 4k screen, but the mouse is visible in windowed mode.

Can't seem to find a compromise. Best solution would be to get my mouse cursor visible in full screen, since I can't seem to get a windowed mode to display at a resonable size. (No i can't set tv resolution to 1080p, it freaks out for some reason).

Had a few reports in IRC from lower end card users that had similar problems with the latest update.

I have Windows 10 set to not update drivers unless I do it myself (thankfully), which is something I'd recommend for anyone here, using such an old game. Many devices have their own checks for update reminders, but don't ~just do it~. Also make sure you do a restore point before any update (should happen automatically, but be sure and make a new one, if you go manual).

The age of install first, with no warning, and roll-back (if you can login after the reboot) when enough people complain, sucks.

*edits* Imagine Avlis with no QA testers before you guys get what we submit... We screw up all the time, trust me, and they are vital here!

My laptop is pushing me to update to the Creators Edition of Windows10 and nVidia's app is pushing me to update the drivers as well. Resisted the temptation so far, but Windows interrupts every session on Avlis by dropping me to the desktop with a prompt. I have to Alt-Tab back into NWN, hoping it hasn't frozen

That's so annoying. I'm having to endure the same thing. Luckily, they seem to have fixed the Windows Creator screw up, or so I've heard.

That is good news. Thanks. I hope it is true :prost:

It's true, I have the Creator Build installed and NWN is working fine with it for me.

I also installed the latest NVidea driver ((388.31)), it seems improve the stability from NWN for me, haven't crashed so far. The Cloak/invisible problem is still there when I log in but once I trans to an other area everything is normal again and stays normal until I log out, including server hops.

Thanks.

I did have the cloak error at first but I changed some of the graphics settings in NWN and that fixed them. Unfortunately, I can't recall which ones.

At the moment (pre-Creators and nVidia updates) it works fine even in DM Mode. I will take a backup and let the updates take effect. Fingers crossed :?

I was having the cloak/body issues with 388.13 and a transition would fix the issue for a few days. Then it started to cause the issue and 388.31 did not fix it. I had to roll back to whatever was newest, still in my downloads folder for convenience, and wasn't of the 388 range. I landed on 384.76 and have had no issues again. I even use environmental mapping and shiny water.

I also managed to 'fix' my 1080p "vibration" by making a custom resolution of 1916x1080 and setting nwn to that in the nwn.ini file. The radial menu is now a little more oval shapped and everyone's gotten a slight weight loss program going on but alt+tab is pretty smooth compared to running at a resolution that as in the 1800's to avoid the vibration and the alt+tab taking about 5-7 seconds for both of my monitors to stabilize at the lower resolution nwn was running at.

I also run nwn in full screen mode on 1ofthe monitors if that matters.

At least there looks like some nice news for 4k screens soon with the enhanced edition (and mac/linux users). Live stream announcement in 10 hours on twitch!

Gonna be pre-ordering that one, yup. :jump2:
