Don't kill Dark City with an eventual stagnant death by isolating it from the surface. It will either thrive with the rest of Avlis, or rot as a dead end.

Please place all Underdark feedback in the feeback thread.

According to the Wiki, Sereg are supposed to be able to cast darkness but I think it's a bit broken.

How about if the Sereg get a wand/rod that casts darkness. Could be either something like 3/day or use the same progression as the Barbarian Rage. Make it Plot/Non Drop (or whatever you do to stop these things disappearing when you die)

A way to unsubscribe to any of the forums to tailor it for information that you only have contact with in game. I don’t want to read posts about the rl or from the south as I am in Kuras... I know "just don’t read them" but it would be so nice to click on the view recent posts since i was away and only get the few that you really want to see on the list

This has been asked before and there currently isn't any way to do this. You will have to filter the information yourself. - Moredo

How about a General Discussion sticky with Orleron's stance on NWN2? I think he spelled it out quite clearly, fairly recently. :)

Reasoning is, I think the upcoming release will begin to cause (if it hasn't already) some servers to die down, sending new players this way. The NWN2 stance will probably be one of the first things they wonder about- it could even decide whether they start playing here or not. Also, for Avlis players that are already here, it might be a good thing to have up there for people that don't read the forum very much... prevent anxiety and new threads and dead-horse beating and all that.

What exatly are you looking for? Orl saying that we still plan to support NWN? That Avlis2 won't be released until we're ready? - Doug

AFAIK it is due to a PC hide issue, there is no need to be giving rods, just have the PC Hide problem solved.

Not sure if this is doable, but perhaps make some items that are available in the Underdark useable ONLY in the Underdark? Kind of adamantine stuff from the D&D Underdark - it would dissolve when wielded/worn in the Overlight servers.

Instead of Experience Points reward for Role Player of the Month, let players have option for a different reward: Creating a custom character.

With an (team or DM) approved background, a created custom character could be any (non-epic) level with any mix of (non-prestige) classes. For example, player could be allowed to start as a 10th level retired M'Chekian Army Captain who is embarking on a career as an adventurer. Equipment/gold could be given per background/DM approval. Some restrictions could apply, such as the character being ineligible for custom item rewards, etc. Team could also give this reward to a player for exemplary role-play. Perhaps players who have demonstrated good temperament and dedication to playing (e.g., having a character qualifying for Heroes of Avlis) could be offered this as well.

Interesting idea, but not likely to happen. RPotM awards are given to the character that was voted on, not just the player. This reward wouldn't make sense in this context as the reward for RPing your character well is to create a different character entirely. -TripleAught

With all of the new "stackable" crafting regeants, is there any way we could have the "Dusts" used in jewelry crafting made to be stackable? They are a "low-value" purchaseable item, similar to grain and wheat, and are used in large quantities for some recipes. It is also pretty limited as to where you can buy them, so buying enough to take back for your experiments can be a burden considering how much inventory space they currently take up.

Take a back up of the CD key / gamespy links in the DB for reference for serious watchlist offences.

Wipe all links from the currently active DB.

That way people who get banned or VJed by association from now on only have themselves to blame, and save the team the headache of people saying they've been VJed or banned in correctly, and save however many hours of investigation.

Afterall its not as if taking the ini with your CD keys to a friends house is difficult

The back up tables can be used in the case of any really serious offences.

DM awards crafting xp cookies as well.....so if people are discussing recipes....doing master pupil stuff....they get one (relevant crafting xp)...or other (normal XP) or both

this has probably been suggested at least 23 times before

DM's occasionaly give "crafting XP cookies". The problem is that the players never realise because they don't get a message about it. :) -Snow

Could you add a DM Music Wand utility so Bards can talk with a DM that will be covering a specific event and be able to use an uploaded DM approved portion of music? Would be great to add a musical component to songs and poems we write up but not sure if it is possible.

Thanks,

Soshus

Adding new sounds requires hak editing, although not CoPaP wide. If you know how to do hak editing, or willing to learn, apply for Subcontractor and this might happen because, well, it's a neat idea :)

Would be really nice to add specific history to a weapon or armour in the item description.

beaches...aye that's right...beaches! I remember going to hala as a young little dwarf and playing on the beach and islands there. Now it would be great since southern avlis is surrounded by water to have a few beaches as well. Just a thought.

sears610

This would require a new tileset, which probably won't happen in the established servers. Some servers have beaches, including Kuras and Kurathene. -Czarcasm

If you know of a way to build this in the established servers, without using a new tileset (There are several), apply for Subcontractor and the areas might get imported. -Krator

If Possbile, why not give the Listen skill a secondary effect like:

-1 penalty to saving throws vs Sonic for every 5 point in the skill rank.

This will add a certain realism to Avlis. Those with sensitive ears finds it harder to shrug off loud noises compared to those without.

1.) There's no PnP support for this idea.
2.) This would be difficult to code for spells and impossible for weapons.
3.) It doesn't make the game more fun.

So, no. - Doug

My idea from another thread:

Expand start to 3-4 areas and make it a tutorial proper to Avlis. This world is huge, it has tons of lore, and rules... it can be intimidating and hard for a newcomer to start playing here. A tutorial would make this so much easier, and it could be used to make sure everyone knows at least the most crucial bits of info when they start playing.

EXAMPLE 1:

One room is dedicated to history and religion of Avlis. There is a history npc who explains the most important bits of happenings through Avlis history, the sort of stuff everyone knows.

There are also NPCs for avatars of gods, or at least the big nine. They will explain their philosophy and do other services.

Example 2 : NPC called Gorethar, God of Justice and Paladins

He says: "Greetings, I am Gorethar, god of blah blah blah. It is especially important that you talk to me if you are a paladin.

Dialogue choices:

1. Philosophy of Gorethar
2. I am lawful good, change my deity field to Gorethar
3. Where can I read more about Gorethar
4. What is the Order of Gorethar, do I need to join that if I am a paladin?

EXAMPLE 3: death system

There is a room with an npc who explains dying and death system. There is a look-a-like death corpse on the ground. Clicking it tells you about looting rules.

PROS of the system:

- I think it would be swell way to get more players and give them a smooth start.
- People like to learn by doing, not by reading manuals (which forum reading resembles), this would be a friendly way of getting people to know the basics.

CONS of the system:

- I don't know how to use the toolset or script, so I can't do it myself :(

This might be in the works, wait and see :) - Moredo

Alignment Shifts on Avlis

There was a rather significant discussion on IRC today, involving myself (Penguin), Nob, ek, muel, Grunt, Alphonse, Cath, and others.

The key points that we discussed was the impact of a character's alignment on Avlis, their worthiness of alignment titles, and a DM's job of giving alignment shifts.

Nob expressed dissatisfaction with the current system, in what I also agree to be the chief problem with the current alignment system on Avlis.
<Nob> We rarely shift people now..
<Nob> Because A...
<Nob> We get a shitload of complaints.
<Nob> And B. They just correct them through scripted quests.

The generally agreed upon solution that we discussed would be to either A:
Remove scripted alignment shifts from Avlis, so that DM granted shifts, based on their observations of a character, would once again have meaning.

Or B:
Somehow cap alignment shifts from specific actions. IE: Norman Bates style mass commoner murdering could get you to no more evil than 20 or 15, and stealing could not get you more than a little on the Chaotic scale. Likewise, a terribly evil person doing a single good act won't get a significant shift.

As it is, a character's alignment is based little or not at all on how that character is played. It's all doled out automatically by quests or events in the engine, and does not dynamically shift to represent the actions of the PC properly.

By the same token, DM granted alignment shifts are invalidated totally, as the PC can restore their alignment to whatever amount they want with minimal effort.

This will be a load of work and cost a lot of time. I will bring it up with the team. I don't think it'll happen as it will require editing a ton of quests out there. If you mail a list with scripted ways to change your alignment (you know of) to staff@avlis.org the chances of this happening will rise dramatically. -Krator

How about we create a new forum specificly for all of the posts about sports?
That way they wont be cluttering up the rest of the forums.

We have one, it's called Random :D

BAH! I was hoping to move them to somewhere that I dont have to look at :)

The slavers quests...where you release people...isnt that doing good?

Shirely :) if the player is NE/CE other evil alignment like Gorethan they should get some good points if they release the slaves and no/reduced xp....even (-)xp?? If they kill/torture/leave them tied up they get the xp and no loss of evil points as an option in the script.

TA is working on something here, I'll let him know. However an evil elf hating Malekite, can still release human prisoners from captivity, and shouldn't really suffer a penalty for it. - Moredo

Avlis DM's:
After a DM runs an event in which they kill off quest NPC's on a server, merchants, move them, or leave a large number of placeables and static bodies around, could you please reload the module when your event is finished?

It doesn't take long at all, and would be appreciated by the players who are trying to quest or play there in the following days.

Thanks.
